This page is unironically one of my favorite out of the entire ride. It's weird, a little disgusting, and definitely overly dramatic, but incredibly soulful all the same. Frankly, it's what all fancomics should aspire to.

As weird and wonderful as Archie or Fleetway would get, there was always someone from Sega putting a limit on what could be done. Now that Sega's tightened its mandates post-Archie, it's more important than ever for fanworks to keep pushing the boundaries of what a Sonic comic can be. While the art might be a little rough, or have plots that meander off in odd directions or just stop updating, there's a wonderful quality to these fancomics that you just can't get anywhere else.

As a Sonic character, Sally is one of the most under-dressed females and it took until the reboot for her to be over-clothed. Couple that with her curvy body and she's going to raise some eyebrows no matter what she's wearing. Sometimes I think what reaction a completely naked Sally would get from others. also I don't think that picture is accurate, none of the characters in the games ever mentioned having financial difficulties. In fact nothing money related is ever mentioned as far as I recall, other than Rouge being a thief. Those bridge paths with the broken columns underneath are based on aqueducts, they're not flat for gameplay purposes. The waterslide things in act 2 are probably a better example though. Yeah, the whole thing's an underground water processing facility. I didn't want to say sewer since it gives the wrong impression. At the end of act 2 you get blasted through the ceiling and end up in Marble Garden Zone so it's clearly located underneath.

Happy one year anniversary of The Ride™ konductor-kun! To celebrate this auspicious day I'm unveiling my secret project: https://the-ride.neocities.org/ It's a site for cataloguing all the comics we've covered, and should be much easier to use than that spreadsheet I made. It's got a tag-based recommendation system so that when you click on a comic it'll suggest similar ones. I've only added the first 90 comics but it's working well enough that I'll keep adding to it.

If anyone would like to contribute to this incredibly dorky undertaking, I've revamped the spreadsheet (link on the contact page), just comment with descriptions or tags for the comics. Feel free to come up with new tags too, it can't all be twink-centric!

In case anyone was interested in how I built it, it's all generated from the spreadsheet. It has everything I need to describe the comic so I wrote a script that converts each entry into a markdown file (basically a textfile). These files are then read by Hugo, a static site generator that builds the website. Once it's built, I then use neocities' command line tool to upload the website. It sounds a bit convoluted but it works pretty well, only taking a few seconds to build the new site and around 30 to upload it to neocities.

Right now I'm using the default theme https://themes.gohugo.io/themes/gohugo-theme-ananke/ but I'll eventually customize it so it looks more like a Sonic fansite. I'm also planning on adding some tutorials on how I archive comics/websites/videos/etc, and how I recover comics that were deleted. Might be a while before I get around to that though.

So much relationship drama. And really going out there in ideas. I admire wanting to really separate Archie from the games and give it it's own identity but I prefer adapting ideas from the games. It is fun to see how characters under Bollers would've evolved compared to what eventually happened to them under Ian. I still prefer Ian's since he cut down and streamlined a lot of stuff.

The echidnas are going to be an interesting thing to cover. I really need to figure how much of Penders' ideas I want to use. I like the ancient origins from the games as well as the advanced technology stuff from Archie. Just need to find that happy medium or way to do both and not have it conflict. Sometimes it's best to leave a few things undecided, I think a lot of writers get to bogged down in the lore, which slows things down. There's so many Sonic AUs that are just lore dumps and concept art, it's such a waste.

Cool, I really like the idea that it's a new weapon he's testing out, rather than what he used to take over the world. He already had an army of swatbots in the original! Underground had an interesting take too, where it was a punishment meant to keep the aristocrats in line
