I also think the insular culture of IDW's creative team (they're all friends with each other) has lead to the weird characterization. I think one of the issue is that he not only had to work from scratch, but he is also not allowed to actually adapt games. Say what you want about the Reboot, but he seemed liked he had a lot of fun actually adapting the games and making callback to the 8bit games.
Cue the IDW comic, where he not only lack all the Archie lore building, but is not even allowed to build on any Sega existing game-story aside from Force. That and I think the end of Archie Sonic, just like Evans said might have caused some moral debuff to his creativity.

I actually really liked his Archie reboot and it had really hit it's stride by the time it got cancelled. There was definitely some cool stuff planned with the trolls and the origin of super forms that we'll never get to see until Flynn retires.
Couldn't agree more on IDW. They hired a writer that's best placed for worldbuilding and integrating various aspects of the canon, only to tell him he has to set things in the post-Forces continuity but without all the cool stuff (no Infinite, no Death Egg and none of the interesting locations like that futuristic city). He probably had to fight just to adapt some aspects of Heroes. I honestly don't blame him or anyone else on the team from being burnt out. I do think he's phoning it in to a certain extent, and he's definitely stretching out plots, but I'd be doing the same

Sonic and the Freedom Fighters Note I love merging stories from completely different continuities. There are quite a bit of intentional/unintentional links and similarities. For example, the word “Doomsday” has come up at least a couple times.
I'm starting to work on various series of notes for other stories. So far I have one for the echidnas, another for Gerald Robotnik, and I'd like to do one for Modius (previously Moebius). Lots of big changes and surprises.

God, I reall feel you anons. First time actually reading archie, so the emotions are high for me. I really don't the whole geoffrey thing too, and not to sound like a mad shipper, the whole geoffrey x sally thing literally doesnt make sense to me. To add, I do like the comic a lot even with some it's flaws like ffs kinda need to be saved all the time. but its at least a bit better cuz they get moments of being really capable too. I'd other love a lot more character dynamic between characters that isnt about sonic. Seeing the Sonic/Sally/Knuckles thing is so much better than the shit Penders was doing. Sonic being jealous of Knuckles and Sally and they're just childhood friends and he has no reason to worry. And then there's Geoffrey. I made a mental note that Sonic 43 and 46 suck (but Antoine gets a helluva character boost in 46). And then it's done in Brave New World. I'm starting to realize that Penders likes Antoine considering the other stuff. Then again it gets nasty later on. I heard the Sonic and Bunnie kiss was an artist error and Penders never intended that to happen.

Sonic and the Freedom Fighters Note Scrapped idea: Tiara Boobowski, a character from the cancelled Sonic X-Treme game that kind of looks like Sally, was going to be revealed to be a third Acorn child. I was also going to make Sally, Elias, and her triplets as a nod to Sonic Underground. Tiara’s look was going to be changed a little so that she fit in better with her siblings. It was going to be revealed that Wendy Naugus, sister of Ixis Naugus, used her magic to abduct her as a baby and mindwipe everyone. She would later come back with her adoptive mother and attack Sally and Elias. Tiara would be the magic user (same as in Sonic X-Treme), inheriting her mother’s power and the reason why Wendy took her. Since this was scrapped, that power was given to Sally, who didn’t have any magic powers when this was planned.
Using futuristic vehicles and weapons in a conflict against warriors that fought with fists and spears gave the humans an immense advantage. It was only a matter of time until they would defeat the echidnas and take the Master Emerald. Such a source of power had always been targeted by others but no mobian force could match the might of the echidnas within their own city. But the humans were unlike anything the echidnas have ever faced before.

If you consider adding userscripts, please notify me about them on /baw/ and if I see anything good I'll consider adding them to the vanilla site code. Some features would need to be optional, and for that I'd need to add a Preferences popup, so no promises.
