>>9291Exactly! After storytiming TLSC, I wanted to see how other Archie alumni would approach their own not-Archie series. Here, Butler's taken all the things he liked about Archie Sonic (Sally, sexy villains, cool fights peppered with humor) and reworked it into an original take on Celtic lore. Despite not being known for his writing, Butler's done a great job of giving characters their own voice (Penders is notorious for writing everyone with that awkward, overly verbose style and just adding catchphrases to distinguish them) and actually using framing devices and flashbacks to loredump without getting in the way of the story.
I'm not sure how many people know this, but Penders knows he won't finish TLSC in his lifetime, and instead expects his kids to finish it once he's gone, despite never involving them in the comic. Butler, on the other hand, started this because his daughter wanted to do a comic with him and has treated it as a full partnership, naming their collaboration Duo Publishing. Personally, I think it's really sweet knowing that they're having fun working together.
Oh, and hilariously, this single issue actually has more original story pages than TLSC
