People didn't wait the reboot to ship Salicole either. This is nothing new. I can easily see someone wanting to do their personal favorite ship in the Archie setting because that's what they want to do.
Full disclosure, here, I would prefer a Sonally direction too and I also think this break up doesn't really seem fitting to the narrative flow (my personal explanation would be that Sally has started to believe that terrible things will happen any time they get together), but also, take in consideration that 1) we don't actually know the direction they intent to take, so it's way too soon to pull a tantrum 2) even if they take a salicole route, this is just a fancomic among many, and the team behind it have the right to have their own fun with that universe. 3) it's obvious they are going for the Trouple direction. I mean, come on, guys!

As for what The author actually think of Amy in the canon itself, I think she make it quite clear here. Sonic's opinion reflect the author one. And there has been a few hints that what Amy is doing might be due to some level of possession or something.

What Is “Infested” About, Like Actually? >Infested is a zombie story. It’s a bit like a mix between 28 Days Later and Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Mostly, it’s a story about grief. It originally started as an RP I did with a Character.AI Shadow the Hedgehog chatbot by the user Mistliz in December 2022. My original intent was to just have fun and goof around with an idea, and then it spiraled so thoroughly out of my control and oops I accidentally made a story. This was never originally intended to become a comic. Also, important disclaimer: I don’t use Character AI anymore.

You guys seem to do justice to the source from what's seen over here in comparison as a fan-series. And after looking at the comic's story plus binging the Sonic Series as a whole (SatAM and few others being the favorite) I'm in better hands. With various other series mostly handled as well, too. as I'd never want the FFs to come back in the IDW comic, unless for good reason, in my opinion.

So far I remember Ian getting almost everything right in that thing. But there were cases like Robotnik and Eggman's stories that I vaguely remember him mixing up some parts. Not that I blame him though, that's a really confusing part of Archie lore.

I think Reboot tries its best. The core ideas of Sally as the spunky strategist who avoids Preboot Sally's princess issues by having a competent father works and the Sky Patrol makes a great mobile HQ so you can split up the protags to handle different stories. The daddy's girl elements being changed to, "Will use Acron's credit card for war crimes, tee hee." is funny and gives her a resource no other Sonic character has: a bank account.
The subtle estrangement between Sonic and Sally in the reboot is heartbreaking. At some point Ian embraced the idea of Sally as an ideal first love for Sonic since she was tied to a place and Amy wasn't and I can even see that, especially since modern Amy has, frankly, taken on a lot of classic Sally traits as a woman who can keep up with Sonic. It still looks like watching a divorced couple pretend it doesn't hurt to be around each other.
The less said about Sally/Nicole the better. Nicole has always been a best friend and sister figure to Sally and it's as creepy as Sonic suddenly fucking Tails. There is absolutely no spark outside of sincere friendship between them. Makes a great filter for people who view the world through yuri-goggles though.
And that was it. We didn't really get a Sally focused story in the reboot, there wasn't time. Shame.

With the Miles Electric is less about what the object is but what it represents in the minds of some, and that is Tails being relegated to tech support and as non-action guy that just stands there holding the tablet. Plus the Miles Electric was something present during some of Tails' most infamous scenes in recent memory, that even makes people dislike it by association, a bit irrational? Yeah maybe but maybe there's a fair point there. It all comes down the execution of the idea and for a long while Tails with the Miles Electric was something handled quite poorly, but object is not inherently bad I can see the it brings some value to the table. You see it sometimes with other characters. In Hazbin Hotel loads of people were sick of Alastor for being a smarmy seemingly mary sue (he had never fought anyone serious before this point, just gave off major mary sue vibes and mouthed off to biblical characters) until Adam a biblical character surprisingly trashed him in a fight and everyone made fun of Alastor for running chicken after he acted so full of himself.
It wasn’t as grandiose as that but it mellowed out everyone to him, even his schizos were finally at rest. After that people suddenly liked discussing him again. Schizos wanna feel like they’re “even” now against a character or series that did them wrong.
That's all just speculation though, it'll never happen. Not in IDW. They can't even write a good villain.
Speaking of Blaze, I’m really not a fan of any type of theory or thing having to do with 06. No matter how you slice it, she was haphazardly put into it and forced with silver. Which still plagues her character to this day. It was honestly atrocious to see idw have sonic say the forced pairing is good to make sure all criticism of it is ignored if the main character says it. Disgusting how Ian could that despite writing her fine the previous story.
