Whilst we are in a gynocentric era, especially in American comix, and this is a Japanese IP - i.e. defaults towards trying to court the female market (which it's managed to get, along with the usual gay & transgender market Japan gets)... I think it's more that you're forgetting the pre-existing male-heavy cast.

I also don't recall any of the girls getting as many issues as flaming homosexual Starline or the evil girl Surge. Starline being gay isn't even depicted as evil as mangas/animes tend to though I don't know if the current Japanese market still does that.

Personally I'm more concerned with the bad writing, a story format that doesn't line up with slow releases, the lack of Sonic being the protagonist who is the driving force of each plot, and feeling frustrated when characters are talking-more-than-doing, crying-more-than-fighting or presenting us with choices (shooting Eggman) but then putting Chekov's gun back onto the wall because the actual purpose of that dialogue was to remind you two third wheels still exist.
Even if it's a symptom of the same problem that you're noticing a symptom of... at the very least trying to make everything a gay hook up is verboten... sorry any woman who wants Sonadow to be real.
