Sucks, but I've been reading the comics since I was a kid back in the 90's and the writing didn't get good until like 2005 or something. By then the games were in the fucking toilet (except Battle on the GBA which was fun if a bit bullshitty) and whatever hope remained was struck down by '06. Depends on the game. SA2 and Black Knight will always be the best Sonic stories to me. The comics can still be good, especially since they're long-form media so they get to tell longer connected stories. I prefer fancomics though, since they have absolutely no restrictions.

Black Knight was the last game Maekawa wrote for, after that it was Pontac and Graff. Maekawa was also responsible for the chao garden programming, and in my opinion having the writer be part of the main team (and know how to program videogames) leads to a much more cohesive outcome.

Longclaw is Sonic's adoption mother made-up for the Sonic movie.
With the large sucess of the films I wouldn't be surprised if she does end up in other media though Sonic Team has been adament of using supplementary material characters in the vidya.
