Also no idea about different visual changes other than gaining an extra tail when she gains a chaos emerald.
I'm thinking of a character development arc for her which resets back.

Part 1)
She appears innocent like Cream the rabbit because she talks in a cutesy innocent voice and does innocent shit and thinks innocent shit even having an innocent crush on Sonic. She's still a genius , but there are some questionable lines you'd hear out of someone like Silver, Blaze, Rouge, Eggman that are very subtle (for the fandom to catch up on). She's kinda like Gadget Hackwrench and DeeDee.

Part 2)
A permanent development happens when she takes ahold of a chaos emerald and she grows slightly taller and faster than Sonic and gets a deep sexy voice and a Sally Acorn personality. ((But we put a question mark and say she only pretended the chaos emerald changed her personality, she was always more mature in personality. This is just to fuck with the fandom to make them double guess.))

Part 2B)
Now she's much more flirty and has the body and voice to back it up. Her personality is much more self aware and her genius shows off more, she demands more respect, but is still not a bitch. She's basically Sally SatAM in personality. She's okay with being Sonic's sidekick (or so does she pretend)

Part 3)
She gets increasingly pissed off being called a sidekick and having Sonic hold all the emeralds and get all the admiration and credit. This is where a Swat Kats tier rivalry comes out where they train together while calling each other ironic names like buddy, pal, amigo, friend, girlfriend, boyfriend. They come off as rivals.
Tails' flirting is more aggressive and is far more demanding and pissed off when Sonic denies her holding the emeralds, kisses, eating her cooking, Sonic doing basic cooking and basic shit, etc.

Part 4)
Tails just goes full rogue & Rouge and starts bumping Sonic off the stage, holding onto all the emeralds, making Sonic pilot the ship while she saves the day. Tails gets increasingly more cocky, evil and an egomaniacal bitch with a smile. The chaos emeralds affect her personality and powers (or so she pretends with the personality part)

At this stage Tails grows 9 tails and gains her supernatural kitsune powers, becoming a ghost that can phase through things, casting blue fireballs, having boosts, range attacks, shapeshifting and transformation powers like turning Sonic into candy and eating him like Majin Boo, flight capabilities, also hacking of robots.
At this stage Tails temporarily goes full evil rival mode for Sonic like Venom. And also wants to either kill Eggman or mind control him, either way works fine for her. And of course become some sorta Iron Man/David Xanatos/Lex Luthor/Superman/Queen big shot revered by all.

The dynamic:
Tails is a workaholic. Sonic is a lazy fag. Tails often gets tired of having to push Sonic around to do stuff like saving the fucking world from extinction which to Tails having the power but refusing to save the world is the ultimate kind of laziness that triggers her hard.
Sonic is not without his faults, he's obscenely lazy when he wants to which drives Tails insane.

So one day Tails goes over the edge and lets her fox instincts kick in. Her eyes turn into black with white flames in her eyes. She either cooks him on a frying pan and eats him whole then vomits him back out when she's done saving the world (while Sonic sits there peeved off not giving a fuck because he just lost against Eggman(again) and refuses to get back up) or we go with the more mature manner and just have Tails magically absorb Sonic through some way OR if you're a degenerate she absorbs him while having sex with him or just a little kiss instead.

In this universe if we measure power levels by chaos emeralds then Sonic is 1.5 chaos emeralds and Tails is 2 chaos emeralds(2 tails). Knuckles is a pathetic 0.5 chaos emeralds. Shadow is a whole 3 chaos emeralds but quickly runs out of juice if he exerts himself.

Thoughts, opinions? yeah personality can feel inconsistent because there's multiple stages to it.
Also beyond giving her 9 tails when she has all emeralds I did not think of any visual changes for her beyond "girl" to make her instantly recognizable.
It's an overall very unfleshed idea and more of a basic direction and a neat little AU where to take Tail's for.
I was hoping others could build upon this while still following the same general idea.

The advantage with this is that there's no external factors like Uncle Ben dying, Batman's family dying, etc. it only requires the chaos emeralds(sometimes not even) and Sonic for Tails' character development to work and almost every single incarnation of Sonic contains that.

I chose Sonic as Riko simply because he fits as more of the "carefree adventurer" sort, than Tails who aligns with Reg pretty well. You'd need to change Sonic a fair bit to make him into the Reg in this situation as well as heavily adjust Tails to justify him wanting to venture into the murderhole.

Also, the idea of great grandma Amy ragdolling the shit out of little kids as the Ozen equivalent is too amusing to me. But I can also see her as Faputa.

Tails is the only one with the blaster arm, which is pretty much an easy equivalent to the Incinerator. He's also the only one with any association to machines.

He's more of a Reg fit then a Riko fit outside of superficial similarities (Tails has encyclopedic knowledge like Riko does, but unlike Riko, most of this knowledge relates to technical or mechanical aspects instead of fauna and flora which only dwell in the Abyss, plus Tails isn't motivated by inherent adventure lust like Riko is). Sonic is FAR more likely to be a Delver than Tails would be.

A lot of Riko's knowledge is about the relics in the abyss and that's why she's so interested in Reg in the first place.

Tails being interested in the relics isn't that unlikely as they're pretty much hyper-advanced technology that only exists in the Abyss and him learning about other aspects of it because of them would be something natural.
I agree about Riko's adventure-loving nature though, but Sonic being extremely reliant on Tails or having a ton of nerd knowledge about Abyss fish, relics and plants on top of being the brain of the group would be a bit weird, in those aspects he's the complete opposite usually.

You could always have it so that those are aspects he usually keeps quiet about regarding himself or only expresses around those he trusts. To everyone else, he's the chill dumb himbo/surferbro, but around people who he considers friends or wholeheartedly enjoys being around, he can go on long tangents about any sort of Abyss-related topic.

Basically an uber-fucked up fanfic starring Tails. The part that we're referring to is the story where Tails gets trapped in an endless 'Happy Days' simulation along with Cream, and then it is later revealed that EVERY SINGLE CHILD on the planet was captured by an insane AI made by Eggman, who was convinced that all the world's children "belonged to him" and thus kidnapped them to store them on an offworld space station forever. This includes Sonic and the rest of the cast, who went into space to save Tails when he got kidnapped and got caught themselves.

The simulation has been running for hundreds upon hundreds of years and all of the children, including Sonic and co, have long since become bones floating in tubes of fluid, having perished inside their simulations. Hard to even call her that much, since she's even more broken once she gets out of the tube and doesn't get the same degree of emotional development as Rei. The Rei in most of Evangelion was at least considered somewhat more valuable than "totally expendable". Meanwhile, any Cream who doesn't do well in manipulating Tails into staying trapped in Happy Days is inevitably killed and replaced without him realizing as the simulation restarts.

It's even explicitly stated at one point that his constant attempts to break free directly burnt out and killed the vast, vast majority of the Cream's used to placate him. It was only considered fine because the AI could just take any from the thousands of others to use.
