IDWnic was pretty nice. He didn't believe in the death penalty, imprisonment or giving a disproportionate response to a literally who angry green girl who couldn't hurt a fly.

The problem with IDW Sonic is that he's incredibly irresponsible for what he does. That doesn't make him an asshole but it makes him someone that you shouldn't rely on outside of in-the-moment heroics. He didn't want to join the Resistance, he left Mr. Tinker to eventually get kidnapped, he released Metal Sonic after he tried to kill everyone, he let Eggman leave after he tried to kill everyone at the party after the Metal Virus, and he failed to understand what Surge was talking about. For all of Archie Sonic's faults, he would've been more proactive and even understanding. STC Sonic is a pure hero and has no problem going after Robotnik. He also rationalizes with people and probably would've talked down Surge. IDW Sonic is more content lazing around until something comes up, saves the day, and then lets everyone go home. There's a disconnect between him and the threats he faces and the eerie thing is that nobody calls him out on it except for Shadow one time and Knuckles but he's always on the island.
