SA1/SA2 are the most well-received Sonic games of all time and they started the trend of cosmic horror and eldritch abominstions in lster games. Boom was one of the worst games in the franchise and it has not a single actual cosmic horror. Mania had the Phantom Ruby at peak reality-breaking potential and it was amazing. Forces likewise didn't have any cosmic horror elements beyond the Phantom Ruby (which was ignored mostly in favor of Infinite being an edgy wannabe) and it was dogshit. Origins was their attempt at porting the first 3 Classic games and was a tirefire. Black Knight has what is commonly touted as the best story in any Sonic game before or after, and it had Merlina go full eldritch abomination. Etc.

Most of the good Sonic media that you have probably claimed to enjoy at some point or another has had cosmic horrors in it. Most of the bad stuff that you hate is the stuff WITHOUT those elements.

Okayn help me out a little, my memory might be messing with me.
