I am not joking. This is why Amy’s characterization went to shit for a while in the 2000’s, because all they would allow her feelings for Sonic be were that shitty anime trope of physically abusive tsundere/yandere. Her modern characterization is better but the damage has already been done.

And obviously it’s not just SEGA that does this. I swear someone desperately needs to tell straight people abuse doesn’t make het couples have chemistry. Every creepy romance trope (dub-con, love potion, yandere, cheating, verbal/physical abuse, etc.) out there I’ve seen in sonamy, because SEGA jobbed hard when all they had to do was make Mickey and Minnie Mouse 2.0, and encouraged fans to turn sonamy into yet another teenlit romance.

That said, to be completely fair, most of the shit we’re seeing here is ancient. Recent sonamy (and pairing in general) stuff is much more tame. Pretty much everyone’s burnt out from the awful way its portrayed.

I'm a full-on Sonamyfag and having stories with both adventure AND my favorite ship is something that I really enjoy, to the point I want to include it in my own work.

The problem is less with Sonamy in general and more that a lot of the people who attach to it basically are either entirely new writers/teenagers starting out so they play it safe with generic stuff or relationship drama, or they're people who experienced only X (where Amy was at her definitive worse and is what started the downward spiral for her character) and don't really care either way about the rest of the franchise, and just want an excuse to write the characters being messes getting into arguments or having petty blowups whilst ignoring the wider setting. There's Sonamy stuff with adventure, but it usually comes from people who already love the franchise enough as a whole to write that stuff - with the relationship being integrated into the flow of the story rather than the focus.

Anyone else a bit disappointed with the direction Archie Sonic Online took with Princess Sally?

With the premise of her having taken the whole of a Roboticization weapon able to transform the whole word, I think it would have been interesting to see her stuck in a robot, here they could restore her consciousness, but not her actual body.

Have the consequence of such event be a bit more lasting. And with Bunnie being restored to a fully organic body, it would result in a new interesting dynamic between the two.

They're trying to stick as close to Ian's original plans before the lawsuit made him change stuff. Sally was intended to be returned to normal. I'm fine with her being back to normal but being mentally vulnerable because of it. Kind of sad that she broke down in the last issue. I can see that being a problem she'll deal with for several issues but ASO is juggling three series right now and puts out a new issue every 3-4 months. But Mecha Sally overstayed its welcome. There has been art of her mind restored but stuck as a robot. A Sly Encounter had Sally and Mecha Sally split which would be interesting but Mecha Sally isn't even evil, just cucked out of her relationship with Sonic and that series updates slowly as well. Heroes Come Back is right at the point they're going to deroboticize her but the artist had a number of setbacks but has said she wants to continue.

Better yet, if you want the scene to hold actual weight, give it to someone who's been shown to love and value humans and thus vouch for them in the first place, i.e. movie Sonic himself.

What matter is the connection she would establish with Shadow and she'd have about the same amount of interaction with Shadow as Amy. It's not really a problem.

And that's exactly the problem--there was barely any at all, certainly not enough to narratively justify her being the one to "redeem" Shadow. Again, Sonic's the one with the human family, not to mention the literal titular protagonist. There's no character in the movieverse more fit to convince Shadow of humanity's worth.

I don't know what to say. The revelation could be shortened to happen across 2 pages rather than what will be about 5.
It could instead be subverted intelligently, i.e. in a way that doesn't require the reader to have experience with the trope.
It could not be reminiscent of Metal taking over the Eggman Empire at the start of the IDW run.
But it's played straight, it's not bad and it's not getting in the way of the action scenes.

In the games, yes. His movie counterpart is much more compassionate though, and balances pretty well between action and compassion. Remember that it was his words and common understanding that got through to Knuckles in Movie 2.
