Actually I think I know why it happens. The replacement is done on every matching string that is found globally. So when the first >>6 part is matched, it will match the beginning of the >>639 and replace it with a backlink; and the rest of the >>639 has been replaced and therefore no longer matches.

Prime's only canon in the sense that it's an official piece of Sonic media that Sega wants you to spend money on. AoStH and SatAM were also canon at one point too (at least to SoA). The only exceptions are Boom, which was explicitly marketed as a sub-series with its own continuity, and the films, which Sega has little to no control over

That's the trick, it's not! Fun fact: But(t)ler and the others that worked on these issues wanted nothing to do with it and are wisely not receiving any money. In general, Sega will let fans make any sort of fan content, but they can only charge money for it if the proceeds are going to charity. They're also fine with things like Patreon provided everything's made available for free, so fans are just donating to the artist in general and not directly paying for content.

A while back Sega's legal team told one of the fangame developers to stop charging money for access, which I think caused the fan developers to shut the entire project. Frankly Penders is lucky Sega's so permissive with fan content. If it were Nintendo or Disney, Penders would've been sued for even thinking the word Echidna too loudly

Sega is the laziest company when it comes to their IP. They just drop and forget stuff and never try to cash in on it. At best something gets used in a mobile game. Nintendo would've erased Penders the second he was in court. Disney wouldn't leave a body. Penders would be a face on the side of a milk carton. I wouldn't be surprised if Paramount was more willing to sue him. They could score all the stuff he claimed and use it in their shows and movies.

I have no idea what's wrong with Sega. They don't know what to do with Sonic, don't seem to care enough about Sonic to really give the games a budget or time to be fleshed out, and yet they are willing to whore out Sonic to everything in the west (that they either hate or could care less about) and give as many restrictions as they feel like on a given day.

One of my favorite ever Fleetway moments, and one I use to recommend the comic to others. It's one of the craziest and most badass scenes in the whole thing.

Yes! Lightning of Laputa is something for sure was the inspiration for that. Indeed, it's very bad ass. Angel Island having things like that hidden, waiting to be used is something that should be leaned upon I think. All the more reason for Knuckles to protect the island than just keeping it afloat.

Agreed, we need to learn a few more of Angel Island's hidden secrets, as well as learn more about the Master Emerald. I've heard people debate the "destroy the Master Emerald so that Knuckles can move on" idea before, and I really do get both sides.

The Master Emerald hasn't been relevant since the Adventure Era, and we already know that Chaos is what wiped out the echidnas. It's frustrating to have one of the franchise's most beloved characters stuck guarding a big magic MacGuffin that doesn't seem to have much further story potential.

But at the same time, the Island gives Knuckles a sense of responsibility, and his backstory is deeply tied in with the Island and the Emerald. So having more to explore with both is a good way of bringing Knuckles in.

I see what you mean. Despite it being Penders, he had a good idea with Knuckles having his own adventures on the island and even sometimes off it too. Wasn't always the best executed lmao, but it wasn't too bad of an idea for someone to try it again, like conductors ongoing of it.

But Game Knuckles can never really have that luxury since he's really the only one on it but regular animals. Yeah there's been some ideas of dealing with the guardian problem with like shade to guard it if she was canon. But then people would be like, "okay but i'd like to see shade too"

If it were up to me, i'd bring those fleetway robots into canon or have tails build some automatic protection with Knuckles' okay. That way, Knuckles could leave for a good while for stories without much problem. No more of that "WHY IS HE JUST LEAVING IT UNPROTECTED?!?!" because there is something to do that for that exact purpose

Easily one of my favorite animations, although I like Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind a little more. I'd also highly recommend checking out the Nausicaä manga since it's the only manga Miyazaki ever did and the film only covers a small fraction of the plot. It's actually one of the few manga I actually bought the hardcover collected editions for. I'd also recommend Nadia: the secret of blue water. Too much changed between development for them to fit perfectly, but Nadia's kind of a prequel to Evangelion, which is kind of a prequel to Nausicaä

Honestly, just have an alarm system set up and have the teleporters rigged to warp the ME between the various shrines. Not that it really matters, it's a floating island that can't be detected by conventional technology and doesn't have a fixed flight path. It's pretty safe considering Eggman's the only real threat and he's usually too busy causing whatever mischief that's got Knuckles to leave his island
