So sort of a companion question to those posts I saw a few threads back about a hypothetical un-brainwashed but not de-roboticized Mecha Sally:
Back in the day, the Sally miniseries didn't do as well as expected. Penders, being an autistic maniac, took that as meaning readers didn't like Sally. And so, his original plan for the post-Endgame was to have Sally's survival be a fakeout: it was going to turn out that Sally really did die in the first part of Endgame, and the one who's been hanging out with the rest of the main cast since then was a robot body double Robotnik made for his own nefarious purposes but died before anything could come of it, leaving RoboSally to wander off in the confusion. RoboSally would break down for want of upkeep, revealing the horrible ruse. But Penders was wrong about Sal's popularity with the readers, and Archie vetoed his plan before anything could come of it.
Ever since I learned about Penders' original plan, I've found myself wondering: where could a slightly less autistic writer take things from there? What if RoboSally gets repaired and joins the cast, starts interacting with the other characters now that they know what she is, has to deal with knowing she's a robot doppelganger, has to assist the others in covering up the death of the woman she was built in the image of?
You're intrigued too now, aren't you.
