In AoSTH, he's actually a genius and just doesn't like flaunting it - he's far more focused on having fun adventures with his big brother than inventing stuff so he just doesn't. And whilst he's not super smart in either Fleetway or SatAM, the former has him come into his own as a hero and the latter has a couple moments of him displaying above average intelligence.

Archie Tails though was just pure himbo levels of dense until he suddenly had his brain reconfigured.
