Amy has expressed that she hasn't talked with Tails at all and has only rather recently resolved to find him after being reminded about him since she hasn't seen him around, so I assume he just drifted apart - presumably some time after Sonic went full asshole and Tails took control of the school, any attempts at communication or trying to find Amy just stopped beyond Rouge and Knuckles who knew where she was.

And yeah, Tails basically called out that Sonic has gone full narcissist. You can even tell lthat he is by how smug he gets over the fact that since he's 'Sonic the Hedgehog', he can do whatever and go wherever he wants in the school at any time, but sine Amy is just a student who isn't "really" Amy Rose, then she can't do anything about it. Tails calling him out is basically a response to that and pretty much him telling him the only reason he's still there is because of him being kept as 'protection' - which is increasingly hard to justify with no villains around to threaten people.

I get the feeling Sonic's just using narcissistic bravado to mask the fact that he's severely depressed. "Sonic The Hedgehog"'s the guy everyone expected him to be, the one who saves the day while making snarky comments and was supposed to get the girl and live happily ever after.

This Sonic's likely not into women but wasn't able to tell that to Amy, and instead was cruel to her and imploded the group. Personally, I see it as Sonic redirecting his frustrations onto Amy since her pursuit was a constant reminder of something he'd rather not think about. He's now pushed everyone away (except for the guy he secretly likes) with this asshole personality, and now that there's no more heroing to do, it's the only thing he has left. It certainly doesn't excuse his actions though.

Of course he could just be an asshole, but I think we'll find out soon
