That pairing doesn't come totally out of nowhere, it does have some basis in the comics.
I suppose the kid is digital like Nicole? They wrote a bit of code together and programmed an AI kid for themselves? The kid is drawn with the same pixel effect as Nicole, and he has control over nanites.

A problem Archie had since the beginning is that SEGA rarely ever gave them any references from the games - just stuff on the cover of the boxes or promotional pics. (That and before Flynn, everyone outside of Spaz, Dubs & Bollers really didn't give a fuck )

Yeah, it's just alright in terms of plot. It's no SA2 or OVA, but it's far better than I was expecting. I would've preferred a full cgi film, despite Carrey's fantastic performance. The character interactions and little references to more obscure Sonic lore were nice too. More importantly, I hope it's shown SoJ that they need to do better considering the best received parts of the franchise have been from Westerners recently (Mania, Boom cartoon, the movies, and the comics).

Night of the Werehog was awesome! I actually think it'd do well though. A lot of the recent cgi stuff tends to go light on the action so it'd fill a niche. That and there's so many fantastical elements to the game that can't really work with live humans. Kids would certainly like it, since it'd be fun and action-filled.

50+ years ago on his quest to cure his granddaughter's disease Gerald examines the ruins of the Echidnas on Angel Island. Gerald starts his work by creating creatures based on Perfect Chaos (from the SA1 mural), creating the artificial chaos and the Biolizard. His work culminates in the ultimate lifeform, a blue hedgehog with the ability to control chaos as depicted in the S3&K mural.
GUN, fearing the ultimate lifeform's power invades the ARC, killing Maria, but not before she jettisons the ultimate lifeform to Earth. Gerald is captured, and forced to create a new ultimate lifeform under GUN's control. Gerald creates Shadow, filling him with a mix of his own will and the memories of the original ultimate lifeform as revenge. GUN realizes this and executes him.
40+ years later, the crashed pod opens on Christmas Island, although damage from the crash has caused the ultimate lifeform to lose his memories.
