Yes, exactly. I love it myself too. They are both big brothers, with let us access through a variety of heavier, more complex topics and situations. I never stop thinking their relationship is just like Kick and Gunther from Kick Buttowski, which I find just elegant and very fitting like a glove.

The way I see it, it's a resolution on both their character, most precisely what it means to be a Freedom Fighter. Rotor believes fiercely like a pragmatic being who see things through in the long term, but Sonic and co. might be more inclined on saving nearby folks in dire help out of just pure virtue and kindness.

Either approach isn't wrong, just means to characterize them up through conflict here. I think this was meant for Rotor's eventual character development, for him to later change his mind and realize it's okay to help someone nearby out of just pure virtue, which entails better his Freedom Fighter status, for as it shows he does care for people nearby, than merely saving the world yet again without really interacting any civilians. I think Rotor was meant to be on his way to become a Superman mentally, in summary.

Overall the reboot is fine but I miss the wild stuff that happened. We still got highlights like the Champion arc and Knuckles playing a bigger role and interacting with more characters and the Egg Bosses are still cool but there's that lack of edge even preboot Ian had. Then again he had too much edge and he moved that over to Mega Man.

I remember feeling a kind of stinging sentiment inside, watching Rotor being for once characterized to the minimum based, being so used myself previously of him often on sidelines, whilst of his protagonist supposed role.
