Sonic #217-220 Sonic and Bunnie head to the desert to help everyone’s favorite Freedom Fighter group! The Sand Blasters! It’s already complicated having to aid a group that’s just as bad as the Dark Egg Legion but it gets messier when the DEL has a good reason for helping Eggman! And then, Sonic and Geoffrey go on a mission to get a chaos emerald. But the end result leads to the next great threat for Mobotropolis!
Question: Do you like it when heroes fight each other?
>>141674030 >And then, Sonic and Geoffrey go on a mission to get a chaos emerald. Maybe I can stuff some "Other times, Other places" game tie-in comics after this, if I am lucky enough.
>Do you like it when heroes fight each other? I don't like it when the reason they do so is shoe-horned and could be avoided with a 2 minute talk.
>>141674089 Going down! >>141674080 >Maybe I can stuff some "Other times, Other places" game tie-in comics after this, if I am lucky enough. Considering there's four issues today, I doubt it. There are a couple threads with less issues in the near future. That is if I don't already have the comics.
>>141674089 I started to notice but why did they start giving bunnie actual separate blond hair? Why not just part of her fur? Like i dont nessartly hate hair on sonic characters but it just aint right for her
>>141674150 The is one fight against the "good guys" Sonic is more than willing to have. >>141674093 I'm sure some middle eastern prince is very worried about this.
>>141674121 >Considering there's four issues today, I doubt it No, I mean, not in this thread, but in my attempt to order each stories in a a way that male snese continuity wise.
Currently, I had to completely remove several of them with no place to put them anywhere because they explicitly show the FFs having several or even all of the Chaos emerald, whereas one is stuck with Mammoth Mogul and GUN has tow others.
I am hoping I can reach a point where the FFs have enough Chaos emeralds I can just fit the "Other time, Other place" comic within the continuity.
>>141674030 >Question: Do you like it when heroes fight each other? No. Not unless one is corrupted willingly I guess or completely betrayed by everyone around them.
>>141674204 The Sand Blasters are even dicks to each other. That's more pathetic than anything.
... Look. I'm not one to endorse government overreach, especially not into foreign affairs... but like, is there any Knothole and its allies could... I don't know, encourage a restructuring of Sand Blast City? Just saying.
>>141674307 >she married the enemy and that has nothing to do with the war with eggman The whole feud between the Acorn Kingdom and the Baronies is very interesting.
>>141674351 >>141674343 Now you know. And hey, it's a little armadillo girl that's working for the DEL! I think remember some kind of mention of someone like that before.
>>141674261 >>141674352 Yeah, the Sand Blasters are very good at making you punch them. Honestly, this probably make them the most interesting of the FF offshoots to see in a story, because they make good antagonists.
>>141674282 Good ol' Uncle Beau. Best Grandmaster by default on premise alone. Just look at the way dude is framed here. Absolutely designed to be husbando bait. Thirstposter creaming his jeans right now.
>>141674334 >The whole feud between the Acorn Kingdom and the Baronies is very interesting. Shame it'll never be followed up on, fuck you very much Penders, Archie, and Sega.
>>141674334 >Beau: Married to a damn D'Coolette! >Bunnie: C'mon, Unc! >Beau: They fucking loved the Royals! >Bunnie: Yeah, if General Armand was alive to hear you say that he might have shot you.
>>141674430 I like how it started out as a reference to the irl South for whatever weird reason then actual lore was built around the Baronies actually having a good reason to secede because of how god awful the Kingdom of Acorn was and is.
>>141674461 She's a Chaos Garden owner from the Baronnies. >>141674463 Unfortunately, not in this universe. But it would have been hilarious to see them meet.
>>141674482 >Not Robians anymore. >"WELL, YOU WERE A ROBIAN ONCE, SO FUCK YOU!" They do know it was a process that was forcefully done to them right? The logic makes no sense.
Sorry, this was poor on Ian's or whoever's part on this.
>>141674397 See, shit like this I'm okay with. Sonic and Bunnie aren't stupid, and they're gonna put on a show while talking it over.
>>141674418 >Bunnie's the traitor? Where the fuck is Silver?! Y'know, I just realized that Silver never actually accuses Bunnie. Maybe he's not THAT stupid.
>>141674542 >>141674538 That's pretty on brand for the Sand Bastards. Their first story was kidnapping Sonic because they wanted him to fight for them for forever.
>>141674030 >Question: Do you like it when heroes fight each other? Not really. It needs to have a good reason (in most media it usually doesn't), and they shouldn't do it as often as this series has.
Oh cry me a fucking river, southern scum. If it wasn't for this source begotten council and Eggman's fat ass, I would've sent my army to kill you Robians and Sand Bastards. Know your place, Beau. On your knees, like your whore wife.
>>141674030 >Question As long as it's stuff like mecha madness and not just a dispute that leads to a fight, then hell yeah. >>141674089 These two work great as a two person strike team.
>>141674661 >>141674678 >that last panel God, Antoine is lucky he and Bunnie are so great, it really keeps me from shipping Sonic and Bunnie as anything but the crackiest of crack ships
>>141674643 I do like how even if they are fighting they are actually discussing and talking over why without being dicks like if it was a Marvel comic
>>141674678 These two have such fun chemistry as friends and allies, I asked this many threads before but tid be interesting how different archie was if Sonic and Bunnie were the main couple
>>141674749 I honestly imagine they'd be much more stable of a relationship than Sonally, especially since Bunnie doesn't have those godawful 'princess responsbilities'.
>>141674864 Considering Vanilla is also from the Baronnies but has no problem with the Kingdom of Acorn, I can't help but imagine it'd devolve into an heated political debate at a family reunion.
>>141674864 >Bunnie, Beau and Vanilla kick the shit out of Ebony Hare for selling drugs to kids. >Then they kick the shit out of Jack. >Cream is spared from seeing the violence by everyone favorite Uncle, Wynmacher.
>>141674925 >King Max planning something with Geoffrey Surely it can only mean good things to come. either that or a rescue mission to find the last lost Acorn triplet.
>>141674925 In hindsight this means everything that happens here onwards is kinda Max’s fault? Yeah that tracks with how most of everything else gone wring is also his fault
>>141674913 >....You overthrown the kingdom?! YEE-H-- >No we installed a Council. It isn't great but-- >Shit, I'll take it! YEEEEE-HAW!!! >Beau just start shooting his guns in the air
>>141675019 You know, in a way, I think Snively's thing with Regina has truly made Eggman and Snively's relationship feel beyond 'bad boss and minion' to a very fucked up familial abuse.
>>141674343 Because Jack and the Sand Blasters treated them like fucking animals and wanted all their heads on a plate even after they got deroboticized.
You need to understand that the Sand Blasters are the only, ONLY outright evil Freedom Fighters team. They only even have the title because they are the only organized group in their region of the world ostensibly fighting Eggman.
>>141674995 >we're strong independent lynxes, don't need no cybernetics See, this is why I think it's such a bummer that Nicole and Conquering Storm never met. An A.I constantly working to assert her own personhood, and a technophobic might makes right ninja would make for compelling interactions. The fact their both lynxes only makes the contrast more thematic.
>>141675040 >>141675019 >Ivo: The fact that YOU got any action makes me sick and the fact I have that image in my brain, is why you're getting punished like this.
>>141675062 >Because Jack and the Sand Blasters treated them like fucking animals I kinda wish we could have seen that happening. but I guess it's better than spending too much time on a single arc.
>>141675129 Genuinely sad how Nicole is just one of many hero’s who got brainwashed or made temporarily evil but she gets it held over her head worse thrn anyone else
>>141675189 >>141675203 It really is some serious bullshit that she's the one who gets shat on for something that has happened to literally every other Freedom Fighter. Pretty sure even Hamlin got brainwashed at one point.
Like, nobody was desperate to get rid of Sonic after Mecha Madness.
>>141675245 Mina, I perfectly understand trauma and paranoia but you really shouldn’t blame her for it and more the evil fucking villain who did it in the first place
>>141675218 >She needs therapy and she won't be getting any. This is sadly a frequent problem with fiction in general. If characters just sought out some professional counseling, the plot wouldn't happen.
>>141675296 >>141675078 Ditching all the characters was Archie dumping the baby with the bathwater, they didn't want to chance anyone trying to claim their characters like Penders did. So even if the creators would have been cool about it or not care, they had to go...then they fucked it up by trying to sell reprints.
>>141675269 >this bullshit >Naugus taking control >everything that happens afterwards Can't believe the last good thing to happen was the council getting a member that didn't have a stick up their ass (nor did they know Sonic personally). The reboot was somewhat of a bittersweet blessing.
>>141675427 >Mina I won't blame you for being afraid Well I do, being afraid of Nicole is fucking retarded and Sonic should’ve let her drown when Mogul was mind controlling the stupid bitch
>>141675418 >Geoffrey turned out to still be a huge gaping asshole Oh wow, who could've ever seen that one coming. Like, I can't even be mad. At least he's consistent.
>>141675543 I like Naugus to, he’s a great villain around this point and his magic adds fun action scenes plus well rounds how Eggman is a tech focused villain….plus he is very fun with how much of an evil and conniving dickhead he is
>>141675572 >Hey! You two aren't supposed to show up until the reboot! Oh? I thought they showed before that. I remember in the Megaman corssover, they were just there as if they had already been established.
>>141675522 Claims he is doing it for the sake of the people, literally brings a guy back who has dealings with anyone who ever tried to destroy his people.
>>141675278 Nicole is way too powerful. Somebody else could try to hack her and they would be in the exact same situation again. The Acorn kingdom and the Freedom Fighters got way too cushy about how much power Nicole wields and don't try to have any countermeasures to prevent what happened during Iron Dominion again.
>Like, nobody was desperate to get rid of Sonic after Mecha Madness. Did you forget that people gave the FF grief for trying to get Sonic declared guilty for that? Some people make the argument that they aren't even friends after that issue.
>>141675546 The plot of Colors has always confused the shit out of me due to the setting alone.
So you're telling me that Eggman, somehow, built a fucking SPACE ELEVATOR, and didn't use it to basically extort every nation on the planet? Instead, his plan is a bog standards mind control ray. WHAT. Ivo, you absolute buffoon.
>>141675627 Man, I wish Sage could have allowed to give Archie Sonic a year to do a proper game adaptation that fit within the continuity. Those could be the highlights of the Series.
I really liked what Ian did with Megaman to adapt each games.
>>141675698 I’m just gonna say it, the people being juvenile about the cover have actual brainrot and I don’t get why people say it looks like something untoward, how else are you meant to draw water?
>>141675717 I don't really see Archie Eggman opening an attraction park and pretending to be good, so I have to wonder how the heck Colors would be handled.
>>141675753 >I don't really see Archie Eggman opening an attraction park and pretending to be good That's literally what Mammoth Mogul did and even if the FFs doesn't seem to have fallen for it, most of the world seems to be okay with it.
>>141675753 They could have put the space elevator on DEL territory and made it seem like he was building a resort for his "subjects". You could even show Legionnaires actually making use of the place, which was otherwise completely empty in the games. Sonic and Tails go to investigate, not because they believed he reformed, obviously he didn't, but because they don't believe Eggman would do anything nice for his people without some ulterior motive.
>>141675850 Good to see you back you hybrid freak, Naugus is such a great villain, one of the series best, shame games don’t have a recurring magic type villain
>>141675850 "Let no joyful voice be heard! Let no one look to the sky with hope! And let this day be cursed for those who witness the return of Ixis Naugus!" No seriously he thought this would be a good king for the people? Hershey really was his better half cause no way would she let him so much as get near the guy.
>>141675931 >>141675979 >Obviously Ian making up shit It all adds up pretty well. Ian actually references old, unexplained plot threads involving Geoffrey.
>>141676031 She seems more like she's sick of seeing Sonic and Elias flirting. >>141676034 I presume Mogul being happy to keep him as a brain damaged pet.
>>141676034 >Didn't Naugus chose to serve Mogul? Yes. >Why the change? Because Mogul used him as a meat shield in the Egg Grapes and turned him into a mindless animal. He's pissed.
>>141676077 Again, I get that Mina is scared... but why didn't she just talk to the council? Or Nicole herself? Hell, take Sonic (and Ash because you know the fucker is still pissy) along with you for safety.
>>141676095 >Twan: THAT FUCKING BRIT! I KNEW HE COULD NOT BE TRUSTED!! BUNNE, MY SABRE, FOR HE WILL JOIN HIS FATHER IN HELL!! >Bunnie:.....I'm scared. And aroused.
>>141676154 >They couldn't land a single hit That doesn't mean he's stronger than them combined, just more agile. He wasn't actually defeating them, just stalling. There are different attributes.
>>141676155 >No no, Isabella's cool. She can stay She gave birth to that backstabbing bitch and didn’t talk her down, so she’s absolutely complicit in what’s going to happen. Fuck her.
>>141676214 >Lien-Da:....The hell?! >Ivo: Well, I studied plastic surgery in college. I'd figured if world domination didn't work out, I'd had a back up!
>>141674069 Ben is easliy one of the best new artist in the Ian era, basically all the manga pizazz of Spaz but simplified yet still on model/par with the official 2d art
>>141675753 There is a reason Ian puts the "Another time, another place" tagline for his game adaptations. It is so he can make it take place in any time, or even a completely different universe that he wants. and if he ever has the urge to expand on the story into the archie continuity later later down the line, like the Sonic Rush Adventure adaptation, he can.
Barefoot with me for a moment... Imagine for some ungodly reason, Mogul agrees to let you have your way with his giant stompers under his desk. But you gotta stay quiet and help him put his shoes back on when he needs to step out. He'll even wear socks just for you if you're into that. He'll let you do nearly anything with his feet, with some obvious exceptions, and if you want him to do something with them, he'll do it for you. Again, he agreed to it for some ungodly reason. Heaven.
Seriously can't believe Archimedes was out of the book with no explanation. Even if he's like no ones favorite character i'd like to at have wondered why he just left like that
>>141676214 I like to think Eggman has a wide variety of skills and knowledge outside of his usual mad scientist field but he only uses them for cartoonishly evil purposes.
He's a master plastic surgeon, dentist, pianist, chef, artist, translator, mechanic, actor, and equestrian but all of these skills go into some zany or horrifically evil scheme he cooked up at 3am
>>141676393 The Knuckles side of the book kind of went on the backburner after the Sonic Universe arc, and then gets fucked by Penders just it's about to make a big comeback. That's why characters like Finitevus kind of vanish long before the reboot. That said, it is weird Archimedes doesn't even get a cameo in this era. I guess Ian just couldn't find space for him since the Chaotix were bloated as it is. Presumably, Archimedes was gone because he was searching for fire ant survivors.
>>141675955 Prime Sonic is the worst offender, he acts even less like Game Sonic. He acts more like Movie Sonic, but even Movie Sonic comes off cooler despite being a newbie in his role.
>>141676586 I don't think he ever commented on it. Given how much was, and still is, shilling Geoffrey as a main hero, I can't imagine he's happy about it.
>>141675869 >>141675955 >>141676661 The recent push to make everything canon and connected is so fucking cancer. In trying to make things consistent, it just leads to a mess and an autistic fandom to be even more autistic.
>>141676663 >>141676229 And to continue, this is one of the biggest reasons why I love Archie Robotnik. He knows it's not a great idea to give his enemies an edge, but to do otherwise would kill all the fun. All the pain, all the suffering, all the toying, it's fun to him and the only kind of victory he sees as an actual victory is to beat them both physically and mentally with his skill and sheer intellect, and will go as far as to make completely insane and over the top plans to keep on winning.
He has to win using his utterly intelligent but autistic mind. Even if he became god.
>>141675879 I liked this twist for Geoffrey's character. This and the future Mogul thing made him and Silver almost cousins in a way with their Ixis wizard dads. Too bad the Pendercaust happened before either could be really explored.
>>141676792 This was something that Penders didn't think out while he was on the comics. This was something he made up afterwards to piss everyone off. Get baited.
>>141675348 >"Who else knows about this place?" I guess Sonic forgot about Shadow mentioning the Special Zone when he popped into Moebius that one time
>>141676717 It would work if they actually cared and there was a strong voice behind the series and not some brand shit run by a committee, they don't know whether to be shonen-like with the story and lore or be like Mario where it doesn't matter. It's sorta working as intended, they like that flexibility to change after a fuck up
>>141674661 >>141674678 Yeah, I can totally see it, but again, Antoine and Bunnie are also great together I really like these issues, Bunnie's easily one of my favorite Sonic characters period
>>141676663 He tried to bring it in IDW. He did the opposite with the games. It probably wouldn't be able to slide since the game cast usually kills villains who act like that.
>>141675546 I'll never forget all the boomer reviewers who were acting like the game was so great and one of the reasons was how the game starts with gameplay and not a cutscene
>>141676913 Except the problem is that Sega is trying to force IDW into the game canon now, and Ian is well aware of it.
This is why everyone should be free to like whatever canon they want and make fan stuff because the game canon has not mattered for years due to many inconsistencies, with them getting worse over time due to Penders-induced overbearing oversight by Sega and incompetent writing. The duct tape they use in the Tails tube stuff and Twitter Takeover doesn't really help
>>141676953 Because the design/concept was by people who still worked at Archie during the Flynn era and Archie wanted a tight leash and not want a repeat of the Penders fiasco.
>>141676623 There was an old plot point that Penders introduced in Endgame about how Geoffrey somehow stole the position of commander from Antoine's father with no explanation. It was meant to be a red herring so Penders never resolved it, but it cast into doubt everything Geoffrey said about himself, since he just shows up out of nowhere and claims to be the chief of the king's official rebel forces with no real proof. It's why Antoine hates Geoffrey so much.
>>141676011 Why is Max so old/sick now, wasn't the whole point of entering the special zone in very first place and getting the Grey emerald supposed to fix this?
>>141677108 The dude is old and the stress of everything he has been through has taken a toll on him. All that happened was that his crystallization was stopped.
>>141676259 This Off panel always hammered home to me how important the Emeralds felt in Archie unlike in the games or X where they just sorta get them and lose them very willy nilly and had me very hyped up to see what was gonna happen when all 7 were on mobius and what would bring them together
>King of Acorn is bad >Like really bad >Ever since King George Acorn >When he caused a war so pointless and awful and costly, that the Monarchy had to create a semi-autonomous client state (The Baronies) to allow people most affected by the war to move further away from the Kingdom's influence so that they did not revolt. >Despite this, the people were not satisfied and rightfully so, a civil war broke out and the South sided with the Overlanders in the Great War. Also justified. >Max is the shittiest king since George >Robotnik takes over. >Tries to Roboticize everyone, ruin the planet, and kill everyone who resists too much. >Beau and his lot joins him, making themselves helpless slaves, instead of continuing to do their own thing. >Gets mad when his daughter goes for the lesser of the two evils.
I get how shit the Kingdom of Acorn is Beau but are you fucking retarded?
>>141676987 The closest IDW got to being inserted in the games was Sonic Frontiers with throwaway dialog mentioning Tangle that even Ian doesn't think holds much water. Everything else is shit that's outside of the games and can be ignored at the drop of a hat. Don't fall for it. It's just branding and marketing. If you want the closest thing to canon answers when it comes to the games, ask Eitaro Toyoda on Twitter/X or something, since he's the guy who actually manages to the story and characters in the games.
>>141676717 Sonic Prime isn't canon. It's insanity to even think Sega will reference some Canadian cartoon people barely care about that retcons itself like 06. It's just ADJACENT to the games, not canon to them.
Chaos knuckles is stronger than turbo tails and defeated him in a fight, and turbo tails > supper sonic and hyper knuckles. So then who would win enerjak knuckles or Chaos Knuckles
>>141676792 Yup. We're reaching the point where Ian used to say stuff like "Don't worry about it, guys. Things should be fine." not knowing just how bad Archie is going to fuck up.
>>141677153 They never gave a shit. For instance, SoA's "lore" was a complete mess when it came to consistency, you had the bibles, the manuals, the shows, and the comics that were all different from each other.
>>141677607 Honestly being part of the plot as they were made the emeralds feel less special, they're just sitting around in random spaces on the planet or being given at awards, Hell in Riders Eggman made the ENTERY FEE to his tournament Chaos Emeralds and it fucking worked.
Something about how Archie has multiple factions diving into the special zone in this sort of reverse genie thing where they have to please him to take it is way more unique and memorable than them just being the same as dragonballs, Hell Toriyama had to keep making up new forms of Dragonball to keep them fresh
>>141677711 It could be unique because the emeralds being free to grab at any time means that an end of the world scenario can happen at any moment and end just as fast as it began, which sounds like a nightmare if you were a normal joe in that world. Imagine going on your day to day live but whoops, this is that time of the month when Eggman decided aim the Death Egg at your city and oops, he fired it while fighting Sonic again. Eggman is defeated, he will go and hide in his cave to try again something for sure but you don't know when, and you hope it happens far away from where you live. It's an abstract kind of dystopian nightmare.
>>141677832 A lot of Amy with big booba and ass in their most recentish account I was actually shocked to learn about that since I unironcially looked up to them for the longest time for their art skill. I still kinda do
>>141678029 >It's a damn shame cause I love his style he drew some art for my buddy way back That's neat to know and kinda sad he still traced. His art looks fine enough.
