Sonic begins his journey home. Lost in space, he’ll have to follow a convenient series of events that will have him reuniting with those from his past. It’s just a shame that it’s not all good but he’ll do what it takes to return to Mobius. And a hero’s gotta hero, so Sonic will also be saving as many as he can. He won’t always be successful.

I really like this story. It's an interesting sci-fi concept well-explored in the span of an issue. Not to mention the way they switch off the temporal decelerator so that we can skip over the boring spaceship-building. Penders and IDW could learn a lot about pacing from this story.

This is probably another reason Mega Man doesn't have quite as exuberant a fanbase as Sonic. The series unsurprisingly loves to focus on the standard robot themes of self-determination, the meaning of sapience, and the relationship between man and machine.

The issue is that the Mega Man games are largely defined by the relationship between humanity and machines. Even as different as it is, Dreamwave Mega Man explores that. By contrast, the environmentalism vs industrialization theme of Sonic faded away as time went on and the "mysteries of ancient civilizations" theming pretty much ended after Sonic Adventure.

That's something that has always frustrated me about this franchise. We are told that there is some kind of major difference between Robot Masters and Reploids that makes the latter truly sapient, and the former not. But it's never really explained what that difference is. Rock, Roll, and the other robots of their era certainly act and think like people, even if they are task-oriented, but that doesn't stop them from being people. It bothers the shit out of me.

Yeah, classic Megaman is just Megaman whereas "modern" is the X series. There's lots of other series too though. Personally I'm a fan of the ones developed by Inti Creates, especially the Mega Man Zero series. That company also does Azure Striker Gunvolt, which is also one of my favorites
