it is more meta than anything that came before, with none of the actual work required to make it actually mean something. That's not effort, to me, that's just desperately pandering to a minority in the most shallow way possible.

It's subtle shit turning the stories 'meta' that would only make sense in the context of the wider scope of the fandom.
