Penders didn't give a damn about what the other writers did, and they didn't deal with his bullshit. What's really funny is that after Penders left he pissed and moaned about Flynn and proclaimed he would throw everything Flynn did with the comic into the trash and do things his way when Archie came to beg him to return.

Ian did housecleaning with the bloated roster and tightened up all of the various subplots. Penders was going to just end everything Ian did and go right back to how he did things, including bringing back all of his characters and restarting all of his stories.

That's pretty much what all comicbook writers do. Flynn trying to incorporate aspects of the other writers' work (Finitevus, the Dark Egg Legion, Geoffrey, Scourge) was downright generous compared to what some writers would've done, even if he did kill off characters like Sir Connery and Tommy Turtle.

A very wise man once told me to basically regard each writer's run on a comic character as basically being its own separate story. Even on the 90s Flash comics, which I really liked, Geoff Johns ignored a lot of Mark Waid's original villains in favor of bringing back the Flash's Silver Age Rogues once he took the helm.
