My biggest reason is how she always preaches "thinking things out" and calls Sonic's plans bad or infeasible in favor of her own plans, which virtually always fail miserably, forcing Sonic to do what he would have done anyway and saving everybody from Sally's bad idea, and in the end she just sighs and goes googlyeyed over him for doing it. I don't get why people look at her and think "this is a well written character".

It's about them being infused into one that helps filling each one's weakness. SatAM show isn't the strongest, but that's the simple yet effective base relationship they have here.

I agree that Sally gets way too much hate for any mistake she makes even though everyone in the comic makes mistakes. I think people don't like her telling Sonic what to do. So when she makes a mistake then it's amplified to people that don't like her attitude. And when she's right or succeeds then it's not considered or matter to those people. The perfect example was the story where Sonic didn't listen to Sally and rushed into a trap. There was that explosion and he thought he was a ghost and everyone thought he was dead. So Sally took the team to Robotropolis to avenge Sonic. They were about to be attacked but were saved by Sonic. And who got shit on for their mistake? Sally. Never mind that the Freedom Fighters have gone into Robotropolis in multiple stories and fucked up Robotnik. That's how the writing is sometimes.
