See it from Sega’s perspective: they have a licensing contract with Paramount, those are the sonic films now everyone knows, they’ve taken a long time to produce, sega have their reputation on the line if word gets out they’re unmanageable, they have never had a big budget movie before ever and this is their first ever foray into that industry.
In litigation terms Sega have their everything resting on Paramount’s shoulders here and so would have to give Paramount as much leeway as humanly possible, or else they’d effectively be biting the hand that feeds them. It’s slightly different for Marvel who have sold their rights to movie for decades under Fox and Sony and now Disney. Paramount is Sega’s only available lifeboat and they’re the ones who need Paramount, Paramount don’t need them.
