Tails took out three members of the crew and was ready to handle the rest, so it's not like he wasn't GOING to fight. What happened is that he immediately got his plans derailed by Redfur being Redfur, and that's entirely fair - the kid has internalized for much of his life clearly that she is invincible, and given how many close calls even Sonic had with her, it's fair to say that Redfur is significantly above the rest of her crew in terms of fighting ability. I do not think it's unwarranted at all for Tails to react like he did.

I love that, its an odd bit of wholesomeness mixed with the bittersweet feeling of what he sacrificed to save them all. I especially like that the Reaching Higher loop is chronologically after Chaos Break/Happy Days/Chronos Divide/Chaos Calamity's, despite not obviously being such (due to being artificially engineered by Reason and post-Chaos Calamity Tails - so from a certain standpoint, we do get a continuation and pseudo-happy ending for all of them despite all the bleakness and grimdarkness, plus the looming threat of the Outsiders eventually escaping the Twilight Cage.

Oh yeah I loved that too when I found out. I was already hooked on RH Tails misadventures of attempting to change for the better but knowing that in a way he also technically is the legacy of post-CC Tails was the cherry on top to make me want see him find happiness. Which also makes the ending of Touching the Sky even more heartbreaking, I hope Pan manages to make a sequel.

It's a fanfic series that got brought up here, around the time we were doing WWMH IIRC. It's basically a means of explaining a bunch of stuff about Tails (but not really) like him being an eternal (heh) 8 year old, his bird genocide and the ruthless ice-cold mentality he'd have to have to pull that off, how he acts in front of Sonic and his friends, the inconsistencies of his Forces characterization, and more. Then it eventually takes a full blown swandive straight into cosmic horror and never stops. As in, "an Eggman more evil than TGT Eggman" levels of cosmic horror.

There's even an additional bit of wholesome when you learn that there are two potential explanations behind the existence of Looper variants of ET Tails (like the one that we follow from Chaos Break through to Happy Days into Chronos Divide and eventually Chaos Calamity) - that he's either an alien kitsune from beyond who developed his immortality via chaos energy exposure as an extension of being an alien kitsune, and that there's a version of him out there beyond the stars who never had to suffer like he does in the loops as well as a whole race of people like him, or that he's actually some weird time-warped version of Gadget from Forces who got thrown through the original Chaos Break and mutated into his current form, eventually working with Sonic and his original self during the war in Forces before moving on to live a happy peaceful life. The latter one is pretty weird though, even if it kinda exempts the OG Tails from suffering in the loop(s) by technicality.

His ideas are terrifyingly creative, I'm sure it's going to be blast if he gets to write about the events of Frontiers. The Gadget backstory is so strange that it's hard to wrap my head around it. And how Frontiers could happen in the two main loops, like the RH one would be more in line with what already happens in the game but the post-CC one could be more of a mindfuck since Tails doesn't have his memories and Reason is now part of the crew, and imagine her interacting with Sage. Oh yeah, his take on Frontiers would be awesome regardless of how he does it. I think the Gadget backstory is meant to be intentionally a super mindfuck - which is impressive given the other option is that Tails is an alien kitsune. As for how the loops may go, with Frontiers, RH would definitely function closer to how canon goes, especially after Touching The Sky but post-CC would be very interesting. Especially since it seems like Tails' memories may or may not be completely erased, but more forced into an unconscious state that he can't properly recall since he does note that his friends are "achingly familiar" at the end of CC. Who knows - maybe the End could even accidentally jumpstart his memories again, or the nature of Cyberspace restores them when he gets locked in it.
