>>136889343>The SlapAlmost entirely caused by Sally, despite people memeing it into being a Sonic thing. Sonic WANTED to settle down, he WANTED to live normally - he says all that himself. But he refused to do so whilst Eggman was still at large and he still had the power to stop him, instead wanting to go out on the front lines and end the war directly so his friends and family would no longer be in jeopardy. Sally was the one who wanted to sit back and administrate with him at her side whilst letting their friends fight the war in their stead, despite knowing full well that the Freedom Fighters sans Sonic do not have the greatest track record against a serious Robotnik, let alone the much more destructive and evil Eggman.
>SallantoineLiterally set up ALL the way back in issue 59 where Max revealed the Source - with the Source outright telling him that Sally would marry Antoine. Except it never specified WHICH Antoine, so the entire time the "Antoine" Sally was slated to marry was Patch seeking to destroy the kingdom from within. Sonic could neither control nor contest this, because 1) it was all but outright a royal decree and again, Archie Sonic is immensely loyal to the kingdom and the crown, and adding the risk of defying Max on top of that? It was never happening. And 2) as far as he was aware (which was very minimally), it was something so far off it wasnt even worth mentioning - he didnt even know that it was getting pushed forward until Bunnie came crying about it to him around issue 136. He couldn't deal with something he didn't even know was a problem until it was almost too late.
More than all of that however - it is not Sonic's job to micromanage Sally's life against whatever bullshit Max spins. If Sally wanted to call it off or tell her dad to fuck off, she could have. Hell, she outright DOES leave the crown behind for Elias to take over instead - but that was never up to Sonic.
