Personally? STC. Not only because of the whole merging continuities very well for a mega-crossover thing, but because the villains and setting elements Okida does introduce are used more effectively and actually stick around for more than one or two issues. STCO's problem is that it apes the original Fleetway comics TOO much, to the point it takes on all of their bad traits like getting rid of new villains just as soon as they introduce them or never following up on any plot or worldbuilding threads they do introduce until actual goddamn years down the line when theyre not even guaranteed to have the original people behind them onboard anymore, so they get half-assed or anticlimatically dropped. Then you have Shadow and Rouge being turned into completely unrepentant evil monsters, with the original version of the former even being completely killed off saving the biggest villain Mobius has ever known without an ounce of hesitation or a single moral epiphany.

All this combined with STCO getting unrelentingly grim for the heroes and cast later on, and it really does become just a slog to read through past the initial few arcs and the Vichama storyline.

Sonic the Continuation is just better overall. STCO is favored by those with hardcore bias for the official series. And even then those anons had gripes with STCO. They're not really similar at all, especially in STC. STC Super is far less of a dick and a stubborn asshole than Sonic for instance, and was willing to help him freely with no issue solely because he could whilst Sonic was endlessly suspicious of him.

Even in the original comic, Super when he had amnesia preferred just working in the coffee shop instead of dedicating his entire life to heroism like Sonic would. He prefers pacifism more than anything else.

To be completely fair, Boom!Eggman is a more affable villain than regular Eggman, you could argue his relationship with Sonic in that universe is more akin to something like Doof and Perry from P&F (minus the tragic backstories). His biggest crime is bothering the other islanders with robots and being an asshole, but even that doesn't seem to be enough to have him banned from doing stuff like using the postal service and attending events.

Archie struck a balance. It had the Riverdale relationship drama aspect for the kind of girls who, had they been born later, would on to make Amy shipping comics the Ride is inundate with, and it also had action and slapstick for the boys. IDW... doesn't have any of that, really. I guess you get action, but tepid and without stakes because you know the mandates will prevent anything interesting from happening.
