It's 100% marketing spiel, but Iizuka is the sort of dumbass who unironically buys into his big hype and ideas, thinking that he's actually making great changes that everyone wants and will try his hardest to push or enforce them. He managed to get away with pushing Two Worlds for YEARS and keeping humans out of the Sonic setting for just as long and the effects of that are still being seen even now with IDW, despite TailsTube killing Two Worlds stone-dead. And they've already implied they want to try and make Prime closer to the games. Hell, pretty certain he's said similar bullshit about wanting to consolidate the Sonic continuities before or having a specific "vision" for Sonic that the spinoff media flies in the face of.

Iizuka will try and do the same as he's always done when he wants to try and 'fix' the various continuities in place to try and adhere to a single timeline. He'll fail, but he'll sabotage as much as he can if given half the chance.
