I think they did that to try and sidestep the fact that Tails literally murdered them all in their debut with actual lethal ordinance. Making them the enemies of the world as a whole and having Tails have next to no idea as to who they are kept them from having to address the uncomfortable issue of Tails using napalm as a weapon of choice to wipe out the invading Battle Birds.

In general, reboot Archie scrubs away a LOT of the harsher or more dark aspects of the setting, both games and what preceded it. It does a lot of good, but I really believe that it lost too much of what made Archie an interesting setting in the process.

I don't know about that.
I read their introductions and liked Whisper. I did drop the comic from boredom before the zombot story even started.
When I did rejoin the story later on the ride they just felt like unutilised third wheels who were not only the only characters allowed to have a relationship (I'm using allowed very loosely here) but were also nothing beyond that anymore.

Did Mimic do anything? I know he had a literal serrated knife and was literally trying to literally murder bestduck in a literal Sega comic for literal kids but I think I missed his story unless Whisper never confronted him after Tangle said "Hey wtf, why are you shooting Sonic?" I missed a lot of issues I think.

I guess it's about the types of fans Sonic attracts. There's just a lot more homo and fujo artists than there are ones that prefer lesbian ships. My guess is it's because we get lots of interaction between the guys that has great chemistry, whereas the few female characters we do have barely interact. Weirdly enough all the women working on the comics seem to be all about the lesbian ships now, despite being total fujos in the past.

Exactly! She's got a soul, it's just not Maria's and any number of spiritually attuned characters could verify it. Tails could probably build a gadget to do it too. Also, if Sega had the balls to stick to Maekawa's vision, it would be more clear that Maria had already reincarnated as the president's secretary.

Probably because the arcs and world lighting up pre-boot edge was such a breath of fresh air. Yea you can talk about remade Dulcy or Rotor not being a crippled old walrus, but having fighter arc, bosses, the lore potential, etc just dwarfs everything else.

This really wasn't there at all. The Egg Bosses and the nations they ruled were grossly underdeveloped and underutilized. And ultimately, the biggest arc in reboot was just the Unleashed arc, which was a near 1:1 of the games, just with SatAM and Classic characters in the mix.

It's pretty different. Sonic and Chip barely interact, instead he's Knuckles' friend, Sonic can't control his were-form, they don't even visit most of the Unleashed cities.

The Egg Bosses had something set up for them. Cassia and Clove with their dislike for working for Eggman but doing so out of necessity (as well as their eventual breaking off from Eggman during the Archie Metal Virus arc), Maw working on the Metal Virus, Tundra being a horrible father and giving Rotor an arc, and Nephthys hating both Sonic and Eggman and wanting to maintain some kind of peace and even having a fake FF team. The Unleashed adaptation set them all up to be explored later and they were going to get more fleshing out. And the world itself having the various zones and human cities full of humans and mobians were also welcome. Preboot Archie had a lot of stuff as well but it was largely undefined except for a handful of areas. I prefer preboot but I'll give the reboot some credit for having a lot of potential and a more consistent world.
