Weird to read these opinions. Interesting, too. Whereas this is the general consensus, I myself still find Sonic on Archie was, all slips-ups considered, overall a good take on his character, in a way I felt pleasant with all the retrospective (even if for little of) development and insight of him, along his better focus on his flaws.
I know for one that Penders is an absolute buffoon who severely misunderstood his character, or the matter of Ian's fanaticism spilling over the comic and staining Sonic into far more alike Scourge with sudden inconsistency, but still, that's 2 to all others remaining artists who had done their cool takes on Sonic, which I think these are the ones that made the best sort of Sonic I love to myself personally, Bollers especially. I like Sonic better on Archie, as I feel Sonic in games, barring great exceptions like Riders or Unleashed, is generally quite of a boredom mascot, only any characterful on giving off moral lessons and following rigidly, almost to the unhealthy extent, of his passion for freedom. For the longest while, that's how I have felt for myself.

But yeah, it goes without saying that Archie isn't really for everyone, and that's why precisely, so I suppose I'm one of the lucky ones to be most jovial with this comic. Despite all, I definitely still see where do you folks come from.

Right, that's what I see too. Between us, I think it's none doubtful to assume most are possibly forgetting about the Sonic of 0# - 159#, included of course his bad stances, whose origins almost all stem from Penders, coincidentally enough. The Sonic I love of Archie, is actually the amalgamation of all writers who have ever contributed to the comic (ideally, sans Penders).

For example, Gallagher's Sonic is a mere disastrously dorky and really snarky, in an endearing expressiveness that doesn't mean harm or bullying to anyone, but also very distraught whenever something happens of his friends. End result is basic, but nonetheless a good take on Sonic.

Bollers' Sonic, in turn, is perhaps the most complex of the bunch (even if it's not much, relatively). It's hard to pinpoint exactly the kind of Sonic he seemed to portray as, since he develops him slowly along the progress, so it isn't straightforward to specify exactly. What can I say though, is this Sonic had a sweet balance of his passion for freedom and trusting its own heart, while still of course hoarding some moral compass and having its own flaws. I enjoy a ton too about his intrinsic ideas on Sonic's speed, making him into a Flash-esque character.

These two are off the top of my head, but you get the point. I do see exactly what do people mean by Ian's weird approach on Sonic, but still, I think Ian still learns of it and makes a really good Sonic by the soft-boot timeline.

That's weird? I particularly don't approve how did he really manage the FFs as whole on his pre-boot run, Rotor especially, but that's not to mean I ought to hoard some grudge on him. I'm sure Ian regrets it.
