Sonic #160-161 and Sonic X #5-6 It’s a new era! Ian Flynn has his work cut out for him because there’s a lot of stuff he needs to fix. And ignore. Sonic gets another birthday party and there are a lot of surprises in store for him. Some good, some bad, but all exciting! But he’s not the only birthday boy on Mobius. Evil Sonic wants the Master Emerald for a present but the only thing he’s getting is a makeover! And then we do a couple issues of Sonic X where Station Square is under attack… by chao?!

IDW is him settling at a middleground where he never gets bad but has yet to write anything memorable. His (later) Knuckles stories in archie with Finitevus are good. The issues itt had some good parts like the Scourge redesign and annoying parts like nobody but the hedgehogs getting to do anything, so its not really either. His best stories are with Shadow in Sonic Universe, those are flawless.

I think it's a real shame Miles and Scourge's relationship was never explored. It had some interesting potential as a dark abusive mirror of Sonic and Tails.
