The Freedom Fighters return to Knothole just in time to find out that a lot has happened since they left. As everyone attacks Robotropolis, good and bad news are on the horizon for the Acorn family. And just when things couldn’t get worse, two meteorites hit outside of Robotropolis! And what about Knuckles? He begins a quest that will find himself reuniting with some surprising allies. By the time this was happening Sonally was, like most of the SatAM elements Archie held onto, antiquated and incompatible with Sonic as Sega was trying to develop him as a character. All the reasons Sonic kept pushing Amy away should have been applied to Sally too regardless of the different personalities, the only thing that kept it in place was "we used to be a thing".

There was just no justification for keeping them as a couple by then. Friends sure, but no romantic.

Aside from boring Sega executive, I don't think anyone actually vouch for this argument.

Usually, in the fandom, the argument range from "he has difficulty admiring his own feeling" toward "he is just not interested with Amy and and it's a one way stuff" with frequent bits of "Sonic love someone else", "Sonic is totally gay" or "Sonic is aromantic/aroace, actually".

Only some Sega exec and Penders, SOMETIMES, push for the "muh Freedom" argument. they are not interesting reasons.

That's why there is Elias to actually take the succession.

It's kind of weird how Penders came up with Elias to solve that problem but then ended up not using that in his 25YL run.

but as I said, I can see sonic as King consort to Sally being the actual queen. Wouldn't be that different from their dynamic in their earlier days.

Elias just didn't stick. Because Archie was writing a setting that wasn't supported by the games and there was no ongoing show to indoctrinate kids into things which is the only reason Sally and the Freedom Fighters had any staying power, Elias just couldn't really go anywhere meaningful. You can't say they didn't try, but no matter what they tried, he just didn't work out.

No more adventures, just sitting around in a palace all day trying to keep the peace via diplomacy. If you're more interested in Sonic's romantic life than his adventures, then I don' know what else to tell you.

If you are talking about Ian's take, as it originally was, it rather get quickly to Sonic jumping to action with Sally's blessing, with a talk of what turned out to be an exchange of ironic banters.

But we only see a brief moment of them more focused on being parents, living in a peaceful time with no longer having to deal with Villain. So if adventure, there is, it would be more about exploration of mysterious places that remains throughout the planet.

No. It isn't. With what she know, her actions are 100% justified. Whisper is at fault for not communicating with her team in the first place. Had she come to Lanolin first, they could have organised themselves to actually trap him.

If the writers had ben smart and not let know of the reader who Mimic actually is, no one would blame Lanolin for how she reacted.

It was but the specifics are different. In 06 He was shown a vision of Sonic causing the disaster but still questioned his mission whenever he got close. He found out his mission was a lie and made up with Sonic after the second try. (He also would have actually killed Sonic had other hedgehogs not gotten in the way)

Ian was just trying to realize the version of Silver described in his bios that we never quite saw in the games at the time beyond some small token moments. The Silver who's naive, inexperienced, immature and brash.
You know what's actually missing from IDW Silver? His mean streak. Silver is usually nice but he can be a jerk when he lets his temper fly or when he's fixated on a mission. Silver in the Rivals games was picking fights with everyone. Evan writes him too much like her precious baby boy.
