Question: What is your ideal “last Sonic story” of a series? It can be any continuity.
>>140286054 >Question Sonic in a SatAM/Archie canon finally able to chill and be happy after Eggman is dead from a battle and the couples being together
>>140286054 >What is your ideal “last Sonic story” of a series? It can be any continuity. I have yet to witness one. Sonic's stories have a way to end before the story is fully concluded.
>>140286054 Oh boy, I hope you all watched The Fugitive in preparation for this! >Question Probably that Fleetway one in STCO where the original writers came back to give closure to the series
>>140286054 So I keep hearing that Penders allegedly disliked Sally? Is that actually true? I'll happily spread cheeks and pour a fat shit on Kenny boy all day, but only for stuff he's actually done.
>Question: What is your ideal “last Sonic story” of a series? It can be any continuity. Is a Char's Counterattack style ending too cheesy?
>>140286119 Antoine's gonna be pissed! >>140286097 THAT GEOFFREY! >>140286109 Oh. >>140286120 >Probably that Fleetway one in STCO where the original writers came back to give closure to the series That was a nice story.
>>140286101 Sonic has every right to never associate with any of them ever again after they immediately accuse him of treason and sent him to die alone.
>>140286084 >>140286097 Again, this is a character the audience is ostensibly supposed to like. At least, I think so? I feel like even Penders isn't so much of a hack that he thinks this is the kind of behavior readers would cheer on. Like, even if this were a ruse, he's still being an asshole about it.
>>140286084 It's Max's bara guards! >>140286101 >Uncle Chuck is rightfully PISSED! He's the only one that seems to be paying attention >>140286119 >Why is Sleuth still in his swatbot suit? It's so weird >>140286143 >That was a nice story. Yeah, absolutely loved that story. And to think, Penders could've easily done the same thing if he wasn't universally loathed by the fans
>>140286101 Sonic's friends in the games >Sonic would never rob a bank! Let's go over there and start a jailbreak! Sonic's friends in the comics >Sonic killed Sally? Oh, I guess I'll just take your word for it. Let him rot in prison.
>>140286134 Kinda. Ken admitted in a tweet back in 2014 that the main reason he wanted to kill off Sally is because she "made Sonic into a 2nd cramped his style".
>>140286148 Yeah, it's weird only Tails and Chuck believe he's innocent. You would think the people who knew him for years would at least question what Sonic would have to gain from killing Sally
>>140286264 Sonic's got Acorns on the mind. >>140286237 >Yeah, absolutely loved that story. And to think, Penders could've easily done the same thing if he wasn't universally loathed by the fans Penders is his own worst enemy. He'd probably still be writing for Sonic officially if he didn't screw himself over.
>>140286148 I kinda want to see an AU where Sonic just fucks off to join another FF team or the Chaotix and never speaks to them again >>140286162 >There it is. Bravo Penders! lmao >>140286194 I do like that Sonic's still in bondage, much easier to add to the collection that way!
>>140286134 He wanted to kill her off desperately in this era, mostly so the victory against Robotnik has some loss in it and wasn't so onesided for the heroes. Eventually he softens up on her by the time Mobius 25 years later comes around.
>>140286162 I know everyone is focusing on The Panel, but the (tm) next to the logo still gets me. >>140286148 >>140286270 >Sonic was knocked out and turned into a robot against his will >Sonic got amnesia and nearly blew Knothole's location to Robotnik while beating up the Freedom Fighters >Robotnik previously had life-like robots of the Freedom Fighters >Evil Sonic exists By all accounts, they really should not have immediately assumed Sonic did it, considering how many times shit like this can or has happened.
>>140286162 I don't care what you say. The overdramatic detective noir narration boxes are so hilarious and unfitting it loops back into being awesome.
>>140286236 It's Drago, the FurAffinity wolf! >>140286292 >Penders is his own worst enemy. He'd probably still be writing for Sonic officially if he didn't screw himself over. He really is. And to think he quit just because an editor asked him to put Shadow in his MXYL story. If he hadn't started all this shit, Ian would've been angling to et him to write the odd issue
>>140286236 this really does make Max and Geoffrey seem like characters we're meant to root against, which would actually be done well if it was deliberate.
>>140286316 Oh good, our other heroes are gradually regaining their fucking brains.
>>140286332 ... Look, I'll be the first to defend more serious storytelling in Sonic, but even still, it's not the kind of franchise where main characters get offed for drama. #175 is a good example of how you make the heroes struggle without being dumb and edgy about it.
>>140286236 It's interesting that no one notices anything wrong with Max's behavior. Not grieving for his daughter, not thanking the Freedom Fighters for saving him, just being an egotistical dick wanting to see Sonic, his hero, die.
Does this imply Max was always like this and everyone just got so wrapped up in thinking the past was so much better they just forgot?
>>140286484 Now let's see what Max is up to. Surely he knows who to trust in these trying times. >>140286482 Redundancies are useful just in case Sonic got rid of the tracker or Geoffrey gets separated from his people.
>>140286520 AIEEEEE Rotorbros... our gun... >>140286505 He's the king and has absolute authority. He also has Geoffrey and his people backing him so it's hard to outright call him out without any proof.
>>140286236 I'm only really familiar with SatAM King Max, who iirc was much nicer was and voiced by Tim Curry. Was he really that much of an asshole in the Penderverse?
>>140286345 >By all accounts, they really should not have immediately assumed Sonic did it, considering how many times shit like this can or has happened. It's happened so many times each of them could've suggested one of these reasons it wasn't Sonic >>140286366 lmao, they get captured because the plot demands it! >>140286393 >Once again, we have something that will be a big deal later on. Ian really will salvage anything from Penders, no matter how minor! >>140286484 >Looks like Sonic and Geoffrey are falling for each other! Forget Sonally or Sally x Geoffrey, Sonic x Geoffrey is Endgame hew hew!
>>140286441 I mean as a narrative hook to show how awful then Echidna's are it's quite good but I feel like it should've been reversed sometime to let them be a people again
>>140286505 >Does this imply Max was always like this and everyone just got so wrapped up in thinking the past was so much better they just forgot? Logic dictates that, yes, it does.
>>140286484 imagine if this ended with Sonic in a frenzy smashing his head in with a rock, in a tragic turn having to murder someone to prove he didn't try to murder Sally which only incriminates him more
>>140286346 Because Sonic was never good, and people who like Sonic just want to have sex with Big The Cat. People who take Sonic The Hedgehog seriously should be rounded up and executed along with every other furry.
>>140286505 >Does this imply Max was always like this and everyone just got so wrapped up in thinking the past was so much better they just forgot? I mean to be fair, a fat dictator who tried to exterminate all biological life on the planet is quite a bit worse than a douchebag king.
>>140286627 Now on to the next issue! >>140286552 >lmao, they get captured because the plot demands it! Can't have the plot resolved before the milestone issue!
>>140286447 What pisses me off the most about Geoffrey is that he had the potential to be a cool rival to Sonic if he wasn't getting power wanked all the time. Sonic already has Knuckles as a super powered rival. Geoffrey's just a normal dude at this point in the story, it would be so much more compelling if he were setting traps and sniping Sonic from afar with his crossbow instead of getting into fistfights with him. Show off that he's an experienced tactician, but not some gary stu.
>>140286346 It doesn't make sense, it's cringy because it lacks any self-awareness. This is Sonic the Hedgehog, no functional human think this Mickey Mouse cerealbox mascot is badass or serious anymore than they think Captain Crunch is intelligent nihilistic and has a wicked sense of humor
>>140286650 suppose, it just feels like at some point someone would try something to undo the process since it was such a horrific crime against a people
>>140286600 The fact that the last two panels aren't of them making out shows just how bad of a writer Penders really is! >>140286607 They'd probably throw him a parade! Seriously though, that would've made for a really interesting story >>140286627 >Here's your Fugitive reference, bro. That's our Penders! >>140286655 >Can't have the plot resolved before the milestone issue! lmao
>>140286682 It could with some magic bs but that would be bad, the ASO fan comic did it well but saying it was bad but knuckles obvs wasnt like that and wanted to make things better with Thrash
>>140286710 PREVIOUSLY ON SONIC THE FUGITIVE... >>140286689 >The fact that the last two panels aren't of them making out shows just how bad of a writer Penders really is! Missed opportunity and really making it a love triangle.
>>140286714 who's butthurt? Everyone agrees with me it's cringy and pretentious, that why it's been memed on every site. I'm satisfied others are intelligent enough to recognise how stupid it is.
>>140286716 well suppose if Knuckles had knowledge while he was Enerjak he could've done something, then again would be interesting to see how Knuckles and Thrash resolve things beyond just murdering each other
>>140286346 Anon, you and I both know that it's you-know-who who is always making those shitty threads so he can sperg at actual Sonic fans or find people to ban.
>>140286752 dude I don't care how much you need or want to be validated on not liking a cartoon hedgehog, if you genuinely take pride in that then you are even more pathetic for that
>>140286780 >the writers have free space to write whatever they want instead of just promote new games yeah, and they sucked at it a fucking Sonic R mini arc would've been an improvement
>>140286382 Shadow wasn't his friend at the time and Archie Sonic is a very different beast. Even his forgiveness of Shadow is less him being friendly with him and more that he tolerates his existence so long as he fights for the kingdom.
>>140286816 Hey, as long as it worked. >>140286809 >shadow: and there i was, pissing on robotnik's wife, and he comes in and i yell at him and tell him to get the fuck out of here!
>>140286677 >spoiler I'm still mad! >>140286730 >Same. It'd be interesting since we'd get to see how well they do without him and See how Sonic works with different teams. I could see him basically working with each of the other FF teams to remove their regional bosses, before joining up with the Chaotix. They'd probably go on joint missions with the FFs to defeat Robotnik, but Sonic would be pretty cold to them. I could also see Tails joining him. Now I really want to read that! >>140286736 >Missed opportunity and really making it a love triangle. Exactly! I'd have things mostly the same, but whenever Geoffrey forcefully makes out with Sally, Sonic punches him and they start fighting, but it quickly turns into kissing
>>140286730 >Sonic fucks off to join the Downunda FF >Tails, of course, joins too (did you know he was in Downunda and meet Knuckles' great grandpa?) >Sonic is genuinely impressed with the way the Downunda team gets shit done >Tails starts his romance with Barby >Armed with Sonic's speed, Tails' mechanical skill, and the Downunda FF's willingness to kill, the team becomes the most efficient fighting force on the planet. >Meanwhile, St. John takes over as Sonic's role and Max rants and screams about prophecies and cosmic pools of outer space piss and someone named Elias.
>>140286850 probably can only do it for a very, very short period of time. He once phased like the Flash but said he can only do it for a split moment. So if Geoffrey can tank one punch then he doesn't have it in him to blitz a 2nd punch.
>>140286788 >All that sand Did Sonic go to the beach and decide "You know what? I PREFER sand in my sneakers!" >>140286816 This is absurd but not entirely unbelievable after the Sonic Blast issue.
>>140286788 >>140286816 ... Fuck it, I'll just say it. Sonic makes Barry Allen look like a punk bitch. Fuck your "attosecond" wank. THIS is the real hax right here.
... Y'know, the law of probability demands that there are at least a few Sonic fans who are physicists. A penny for their fucking thoughts, by god.
>>140286729 >In some alternative universe, Archie Sonic stard to incorporate other Sonic Team/SEGA stuff in the comics like Burning Rangers, NiGHTS & Ristar
>>140286878 is this the story route that leads to Sonic hooking with a scalie Aus woman? does he learn to use the boomerangs to homing attack further distances?
>>140286944 peraphs its just like STC Robotnik where they get so fucking pissed off at losing so many time that their endgoal just switch from ruling mobius to destroying mobius
>>140286942 You know, Dr. Quack is still a pretty good Penders character. He's not an asshole, he's fun, and the only evil thing he does is because he's forced into it by threatening his family
>>140286788 lmao, this is just ridiculous >>140286856 I hate to say it, but Geoffrey's looking fine in that second panel. And I won't even say what I think of the first! >>140286878 That would've been really cool >>140286885 Gasp, another robot duplicate! >>140286942 >Still not a fan of this artist. I'm more upset at the recoloring
>>140286675 >. This is Sonic the Hedgehog, no functional human think this Mickey Mouse cerealbox mascot is badass or serious I do. I guess this make your argument invalid.
>>140287015 Wow, that's a very convenient power you got there, Dulcy. Would've been nice to have that handy before Sonic got sentenced to life in prison.
>>140287036 And now for the most convoluted part of this whole story. >>140286999 >Why the fuck is Geoffrey so buff all of a sudden? Did he juice up on venom off-panel? Geoffrey was always pretty thicc from the start. Some just draw him skinnier than others.
>>140286944 Robotnik wants to rule an empire of machines, where he's the only being with free will left on the planet. It makes him an interesting villain, but also makes him the lest relatable Robotnik/Eggman >>140286987 >There's the real Max! At least this one doesn't talk! >>140287004 Yeah
>>140287036 Dulcy, this would've been useful like ages ago, also you literally already got the robot imposter of Max to give evidence that you weren't responsible for all this
>>140287036 >dragons have the ability to detect the truth ...I mean, don't you think you could've used that power here >>140286101 when all of his friends were calling him a murderer?
>>140287099 >Even as a kid I thought that was bullshit. But now there are apps who actually do that in real life. I guess this comic was ahead of its time.
>>140287099 >Penders made his cat a character that was tricked into killing Sally Also did they have any idea how they were going to solve this when they set that scene up? Were they gonna say it was a robo-impostor but then dropped the idea?
>>140287051 Could you imagine if Quack said that in response?
>>140286987 >Quack looks over the crystallized body of Max >While he knows this is the king of Mobius, he also knows of Max's less-than-desirable traits. >Max wasn't actually the beloved and wise figure people remember him as. In fact, in some ways, a lot of people were glad Max and his nonsense were finally gone. >Would it be so wrong to just leave him here? To let the past stay buried, all of Max's mistakes die with him? >But...he's also Sally's father. How would Sally, this woman who gave up everything to fight against Robotnik, go on knowing that her dear father died after all this? >Quack sighs, remembers his oath and his promise to Sally, and goes to work
>>140287099 GRIFONE!!! Seriously though, this is such convoluted bullshit and I'm still mad about it all these years later! >>140287152 Hawt! >>140287185 >Holy shit, they got fucked up! I guess they're into ryona!
>>140287239 >knuckles: who's that? someone that's about to get knocked the fuck out! Some things never change. >>140287188 Yeah this could've been easily done with a Sonic robot.
>>140286935 it's perfectly possible with enough "speed". You're basically just outpacing the rate at which gravity can pull you down, and pushing the sand down with enough force to push yourself up. You're really just pushing yourself up with the air though, same as a helicopter. Only reason Sonic stopped ascending is because he stopped pedalling.
>>140287282 Knuckles, see that skunk? Kill him. I'll explain later but you'll understand why when I do. >>140287265 Mentioned but never elaborated on. >>140287279 >ask cardi b what's up
>>140287316 >sonic not standing over a beaten geoffrey Missed opportunity. >>140287304 Locke would have a good reason not bothering with this unless he knew the scope of Robotnik's plan.
>>140287218 >/ He matches the Tails #3 cover >Literally "I hid myself while I repaired myself" Also he's surprisingly sturdy to survive a nuclear explosion.
>>140287304 He's probably only concerned with the Floating Island He may not even know what exactly Robotnik's up to. Also: >Not our problem >But Robotnik will kill everything on Mobius! >Well, we're not ON Mobius, are we?
>>140287239 >And then they got raped, beaten, and tortured. It's not fair, they get all the fun ;_; >>140287264 Oh boy, more Sonknux flirting and violence! >>140287269 If he was able to do it, the force required to generate upward lift from those grains of sand would accelerate them to extremely high speed. You'd actually see an explosion trailing Sonic once the sand hit the water/ground >>140287282 >They're just fighting for no reason again. It's how they flirt!
>>140287432 Oh Jules and Charles. You poor misguided fools. >>140287406 The first is the newer one for the Director's Cut that came afterwards but the second one is the original cover for issue 50.
>>140286920 Tails in that fifth panel has just given up on life.
>>140286944 Robotnik at this point has utterly lost what little sanity and standards he had left due to multiple continuous losses. Now he just wants to kill everything.
>>140287337 Plap plap! >>140287362 Let's gooooooooooooooo! >>140287385 Fun fact: this wasn't included in the digital release so I had to clean this one up. It really is a much better cover
>>140287488 So overlanders are a curious bunch. They're supposed to have four fingers but a lot of artists mess that up. And they have colorful anime hair.
>>140287432 1) >Julian, of the House of Ivo Fuck off. There was absolutely no need to hage his name, especially not in that clumsy ass manner. People already have asinine arguments over it.
2) >overlanders I was wondering when they'd be introduced. Overlanders were a mistake, in my opinion. Should've just been humans.
>>140287519 whenever I read this issue when I was younger I always pictured that Overlander voiced by Jeff Bennet for some reason also aren't they all supposed to be in space >>140287542 damn the art is really on point for the issue so far, fitting for the finale to go all-out
>>140287519 >And they have colorful anime hair. You really can tell Spaz is a massive anime fan >>140287525 >Astal of all fucking people He's pretty much Spaz' mascot so he almost always makes a cameo when Spaz is on art >>140287541 So handsome!
>>140287615 The Freedom Fighters just can't catch a break. >>140287594 It's handled as well as Sega handles their integration of humans but at least Archie is consistent and commits to it.
>>140287553 Yeah, Spaz always includes other Sega characters, although it's usually just as posters >>140287557 >So is theres other humans, where are they all living at? Oh boy, is that a needlessly complicated story! >>140287575 >spoiler Some are in space, but most are on Mobius. There's also regular humans in hidden cities >>140287613 Really? I'd love to see it if you've got a link
>>140287615 I was thinking "people won't believe Dulcy just because she says Sonic is innocent", but the way St John just take and immediately believe it deeply upset me, now.
>>140287645 >It's handled as well as Sega handles their integration of humans but at least Archie is consistent and commits to it. Humans were always supposed to exist in the games. It's like how humans exist with the Looney Tunes talking animals. It's pretty simple.
>>140287459 >Right before Jules and Chuck load Robotnik into the motorcycle, a portal in the shape of a power ring appears. >Two robotic hedgehogs walk out. >They introduce themselves as J. and C, assuring the two young hedgehogs that they are not there to hurt them. >J and C explain that they have been tracking this Overlander for some time, because he committed crimes against both Mobians and Overlanders. >While not all Overlanders are bad people, they say, this one in particular is a very, very bad person. >J and C tell Chuck and Jules to go get Max's men and tell them an Overlander spy has been seen trying to breech the kingdom borders. Once the guards come, they'll explain everything >Once Chuck and Jules are gone, the older Chuck and Jules look at Robotnik, laying in the swamp. >The obese Overlander marvels at their technology, recalling his own creations with mechanical and organic fusi-- >A shot from Jules' arm cannon cuts him off, Julian's bloated head exploding like a cherry bomb, his brains coating the bog in blood. >Chuck gives a sigh of relief, claiming that at last, Robotnik would never hurt anyone again. >They'll still be other problems, sure, but Robotnik's tyranny has ended before it even began. >Since Robotnik is now a corpse bobbing in the water, the timeline has changed. Jules and Chuck no longer exist as they do. >The two brothers laugh and hug, taking joy in their final moments to know that whatever happens, Robotnik is finally dead. >They fade away just as Charles and Jules appear with Max's guards. >All they find is a dead obese body and a chili dog wrapper
>>140287645 DUMMY THICC! >>140287671 Nice. Thanks! >>140287694 Yeah, I guess we have to assume Sonic has some time dilation/speed force hax >>140287739 Another handsome Knuckles! >>140287770 >Swiggity swooty, Sonic's coming for that Drago booty! Drago needs correction! >>140287784 Would be cool to see how the war would turn out for the Mobians without Robotnik to turn the tide
>>140286194 Nice kick on the first panel. >>140286788 >>140286816 Sonic doing stupid shit like this with his powers should happen more often in the comics. I also liked when he made a giant mirror out of sand in STC. >>140287264 >Knuckles just jumps out of the bushes and punches you in the face as soon as you arrive in Angel Island
>>140287841 I remember last Archie Ride someone being mad that Hershey took out Drago instead of Sonic. Despite her being made just for this story, I still think it's fitting she helped fix the mess she was a part of.
>>140287895 >>140287891 >Fun fact: this part of the story was resolved in a single page in the original #50 And the Bunnie and Antoine stuff that got added.
But yeah, this bullshit is absolutely insane and just makes it more apparent that no one was thinking to call out the 'Sonic' who cut the rope as a fake. I do wonder if Drago realizes Robotnik wants to kill everything on Mobius, though.
>>140287946 >I do wonder if Drago realizes Robotnik wants to kill everything on Mobius, though. Well Nack expected payment for capturing Sonic and said payment was "permission to leave alive" And that was before Robotnik was in "Kill everything" mode.
>>140287519 I never understood why Archie pulled the whole "Robotnik's real name is Julian" bit. What was wrong with "Ivo"? It sounds way cooler than Julian.
>>140287875 lmao >>140287928 >And the Bunnie and Antoine stuff that got added. Yeah, their entire adventure in Downunda was skipped >>140287946 >GRIFFFFFOOOOOOOOONNNNNE He can't keep getting away with it! >>140287950 You know it! >>140287953 So cool!
>>140288017 >Frontiers says hello. Huh. I actually haven't played that game yet, even though it's been in my Steam library for nearly a year. Maybe I'll dedicate a weekend to completing it.
>>140288066 Alright, so this sequence is actually different from the original issue 50. I'll post the new stuff but then do the original pages for the fight.
>>140288093 >Alright, so this sequence is actually different from the original issue 50. I'll post the new stuff but then do the original pages for the fight. The original was better, but this one's pretty cool too
>>140288069 No. SatAM was always a Sonic show. It's just that when it was written, Robotnik wasn't named Ivo yet. The show came up with it before Sega came up with the Ivo name.
>>140288069 they just didn't use the Ivo name cause AOSTH did, they were trying something very loosely based of the games but it did work to give it an identity before things got fully established by the games
>>140288185 And for the rest of this fight, we'll do this page and the next for superior coloring. I'm mostly fine with the recolorings with the collected issues but this is something I need to have the original for.
>>140287870 Looks like she grabbed a piece of a cloud in that first panel. >>140288044 I like Bunnie's reboot design but her chunkier robot limbs there look so incredibly good.
>>140288210 Agreed. Now I'm just imagining a boss fight in the games where Eggman's latest mech gets trashed, so he just jumps out and puts up his fucking dukes.
>>140288227 >>140288207 you're goddamn right, don't remember these at all and only the director's cut >>140288257 beautiful, visceral page. amazing how you can get art like this in one issue and something that looks like fanart submitted by someone in middle school in another
>>140288257 >Sorry. I wanted those four pages and I think this is fine. No worries >>140288281 Man, I really do prefer the original coloring >Skipping the page that is just white. Would've done a meme THE HEART version but we're getting close to bump limit. Coward! >>140288296 It's literally just a white page
>>140288387 Gee Penders, why didn't you include this page in the original version of the story? >>140288385 The explanation dump and everything back to normal shows that it was all taken care of when Sonic was sleeping.
>>140288304 >you're goddamn right, don't remember these at all and only the director's cut Yeah, they're only in the original issue #50. It's such a shame >>140288332 I can't believe Snively was the real hero the entire time! >>140288381 Best boy Snively! >>140288389 It worked perfectly, it's just it was only programmed to annihilate Robotnik >>140288414 Awww! Fun fact: this wasn't in the original #50 either
>>140288414 this page is incredibly satisfying over 50 issues of buildup and constant interference they finally get to smooch, this I'd mount on my wall
>>140288401 The only pages left out where the recolored versions of >>140288207 >>140288227 and the all white page. I included the new pages for the Director's Cut and then went back to post the original pages.
>This Max Acorn has become Foreverial Crystalized Max and he was fully delitized with his organs and inside and literally his whole body changed into a permanent living chaos emerald version with permanent living emerald organs and insides and loving it with a permanent smile on his face
So, it's the end of an era for this comic. Now it's bad for 110 issues until Ian attempts to recapture its former glory, surpassing it in the process. But Penders' autism lingers despite his own departure and will bring it all crashing down.
>>140288387 I suppose this has already been said before, but it's a slight downer that Sally was sidelined for what could have been the final of the comic.
Still, that reunion and happy ending at the end is very touching.
After reading this, I understand what people were saying about endgame. It's honestly mid and convoluted as expected of penders, but it felt epic tho. In ranking the comics 50 milestones I say STC>Archie>>>>>>>>>>>>IDW
>tfw the only part of the franchise during this era where Amy had any relevance was Fleetway feels weird that Sega's now pushing her hard as one of the "classic" characters despite that
>>140288653 Issue 50 was the last IDW comic I read. I felt like there was no recovering from that disappointment. However, if this ride does IDW, I'll finally get to read what comes after.
>>140288622 >surpassing it in the process. Until Mecha Sally drops Sonic from the Death Egg and the story runs around in circles because Ian isn't good a lengthy plots until Ken's lawsuit just makes everything go out in a whimper, you mean.
>>140288752 I honestly think StC's format makes it unbearble for me in that era from what i remember. Funny thing is that no one ever talks about it being that way, course... that would require people to actually read it...
This just isn’t Eggman’s day and it looks like it’s his last day, too! With one annoyance dealt with, Brutus turns his attention to the remaining ones. Even though he was ordered to fight the Freedom Fighters by Eggman, he still has a grudge against them. And so begins the final fight!
Endgame bit off way more than it was capable of and tried to juggle way too many subplots. Should have just focused on the core freedom fighters. No bullshit with Hershey and the Downunda freedom fighters.
>>140288678 Archie largely stayed away from game adaptations. Most of the ones in the comic are either changed drastically, put off to the side as a special, or completely ignored. Archie Sonic suffered from feuding writers, everything about Penders, and editors pushing drama over good storytelling.
>>140288788 sorta, but I think the anime look has its own charms when the right artist is behind it or they're having a good day. you get into a lot of inconsequential, boring one-shots, extremely contrived parodies, and shit nobody on earth could bother to care about
>>140288792 From someone who read it, the drought of game content was awful, but what confuses me more is that there were plenty more classic games to adapt like Sonic the Fighters, the Tails games, Knuckles Choatix, SegaSonic, and an actual adaption of 3D Blast, but they didn't.
>>140288868 >like Sonic the Fighters, the Tails games, Knuckles Choatix, SegaSonic, and an actual adaption of 3D Blast, but they didn't. Maybe because they werent able to really get any of those games or play it much. Archie had spaz for some game knowledge, STC was just full of boomers
>>140288856 Ironically it's not anime enough. This was still in the 90's so shit like Naruto and Bleach hadn't made it mainstream enough for anyone but the most hardcore otaku to know what it's about beyond maybe DBZ and sailor moon.
>>140288937 Just wait till we get to the Council issues and them pissing and moaning because the government dare try to hold Sonic accountable to breaking the law
>>140288937 Some anons take it more personally than Sonic does. >>140288983 House of Cards is going to be a trip just because of how Sonic acts in that.
>>140288792 Fleetway's main fanbase are either FNFkiddies or just Archie-haters but are too hipster to get into IDW. Both of them are complete secondaries and think Fleetway's Super Sonic was way more important than he actually is.
>>140288792 dunno, everytime you ask a STC fan about Fleetway they'd tell you about how the comic lose steam after issue 100 I think the worst thing about the sega dry spell was that 70% of the stories after were just random mobians turning crazy and it didn't help that most of these stories were drawn by Mike McMahon. On top of that back then the comic was constantly pretty good so it was an actual whiplash when it just became boring because the writers didn't know what to do. Despite what people say about Archie's dark age, shit could get pretty crazy so even if it was bad you could at least say it was entertaining
>>140289025 >Fleetway's main fanbase People who look at Fleetway like that don't even care enough to read the comic and just disturb real discussion when it actually happens.
>>140289025 >>140289047 It is a bit worrying that after discussing Sonic comics for 15 years all I ever hear about StC is that super sonic is totally badass you guys, he's psycho evil and shit.
>>140289025 >tfw a good portion of them unironically call Super Sonic "fleetway" >just Archie-haters but are too hipster to get into IDW These guys are annoying as they flaunt their love but know jack shit
>>140289059 I actually don't blame him. Sega forced drastic changes that the comics had to integrate. The games just ignored any contradictions but Archie had to explain the changes. But he did throw a fit over Shadow.
>>140288707 I mostly read the standalone issues and ones with Rough and Tumble. I know it's cliché at this point, but I just cannot stand the crying lesbian drama >>140288788 lmao, Ron Lim's still a way's off >>140288796 Oh Eggman, when will you learn? >>140288815 It's Endgame, so it was always going to hit the bump limit pretty quickly. Still, it's pretty impresssive considering we've only got 35 IPs in the thread >>140288854 I ship it! >>140288914 So cute!
>>140289192 Introducing humans, Amy's redesign, everything about the master emerald and probably some other things. And any problems with unity was all on SoJ because even Fleetway got fucked over that but they were at least allowed to get away with not adapting much since they seemed to have even less of an idea what Sonic Adventure was about.
>>140287488 >ah yes surely this human I don’t know will betray his entire species for us, this could not possibly go wrong Look at this point just walk off the throne peacefully you have just proven divine right does not exist
>>140289158 While the comic was a slog during that time, I did too enjoy how so many people on Mobius were power-hungry dictators like Robotnik. I think it was less that Robotnik's rule made them evil and more than Robotnik awakened their true nature -- the man basically had those niggas think "If Robotnik can have Mobius under his thumb, maybe I can too!"
>>140288945 He's super hot in this page and it's not fair Surge is getting bullied instead of my ;_; >>140289000 Well they do have sharp claws for climbing trees >>140289119 Honestly, at this point Sally's gotta be wondering about these two >>140289144 Plap plap! >>140289247 Damn, that's seriously hot >>140289248 99% of them are chill with other continuities, it's just a few loudmouth schizos that start shit
>>140289192 >>140289266 These issues basically all stem back to the west creating a different concept for Sonic's world than Japan did. So when Sonic Adventure came along and had the Japanese canon fully integrated there wasn't much that could be done unless Sega just let the comics become increasingly in-name only to the games. Of course, not sending either comic group material certainly didn't help.
>>140289266 >Introducing humans, Amy's redesign, everything about the master emerald and probably some other things. What did you want them to do? Just not them it? I can understand that poor communication was a bitch and SoJ barely even bothered to know what was going on, but would you really compromise whatever plans you have for your franchise just because Mexico or Canada have a different story?
>>140288856 My only grip with it for me was that they considered Bunnie's robot limbs not fitting for that new style, which resulted in a change of design that I consider inferior. The art there >>140288021 >>140288044 prove otherwise, for me.
>>140289325 >Of course, not sending either comic group material certainly didn't help. That was pretty much the only thing I saw as a dick move. Sega could have at least given them a translated file on everything. That's the professional thing to do.
>>140289334 >What did you want them to do? Just not them it? Archie didn't have a choice and that was the problem. >but would you really compromise whatever plans you have for your franchise just because Mexico or Canada have a different story? Seeing as how Sega couldn't stick to their own canon before and after the Sonic Adventure games proves how they shouldn't have forced it. Also I would fucking love to see Mexican Sonic comics. Gimme fat ass Sally and Amy.
>>140289260 When Fleetway Robotnik came into power, he had a lot o people in his forces that willingly joined him when he took over. No other Eggman/Robotnik had it that easy.
>>140289398 >Sega couldn't stick to their own canon *of america the japanese were pretty damn sure what they were doing when the americans weren't trying to twist it 3 different ways
>>140289398 At the end of the day, Archie is a licensed comic and are at Sega's whims. Later they do get the idea of having one-shot stories and incorporating the elements later. >Seeing as how Sega couldn't stick to their own canon before and after the Sonic Adventure games They did though. It's just that Sonic Adventure was sticking to the Japanese canon and the games afterwards still follow on from each other in some fashion up until '06.
>>140289446 SoJ were the ones that kept changing their minds and SoA were the ones telling them to stop. Why do you think they don't make consoles anymore?
>>140288815 There was a thread on /co/ about Scott Adams getting canned by every newspaper because he fucked around and found out that reached 700+ posts in about 90 minutes. The election tourists were THAT butthurt.
>>140289504 >SoJ were the ones that kept changing their minds since when? the americans were twisting the story to include mobians and all these extraneous characters. the japanese wanted none of that and it shows. they only stamped down when it became clear the westernisms were gonna implode
>>140289432 God forbid they stop worshipping him when they see with their bare senses him dropping Sally to her death. Oh how cruel the world is to him, people trusting their own eyes.
>>140289504 >SoJ were the ones that kept changing their minds >When Sega of America created an entirely separate setting bible, which they promptly did not use outside of a few tie-in materials (including StC) Anon...
Not saying SOA didnt do some things, but at the end of the day, SOJ/Sonic Team fault for not putting in way more care and not wanting things to spiral out of control with the different canons. Also kinda of a foreshadowing of how they'd fuck up the franchise with bad games with that incomptence
>>140289566 Oh. I agree with that actually, plus on STC everyone is genuinely as useless as he calls them. Ironically they only ever start being useful after he tells them to
>>140289566 I feel both Fleetway and Archie Sonics have reasons for being dicks because of their worlds, although Fleetway's bigger attitude makes sense since he's a Brit AND the fact everyone on his Mobius is prone to corruption.
>>140289593 From what I understand, companies back in those days were more or less separate entities. It's not like the different canons was the only thing that SoA and SoJ didn't see eye to eye on. At the end of the day, SoA's changes bit them (or rather, bit Archie and Fleetway) in the ass because SoJ are the ones actually making the games.
>>140289593 SoA were the ones actively changing shit. SoJ didn't realize it until it was too late. And then they lost their original team leaving behind the cowards who respond only to investors . no wonder they're incompetent today
>>140289472 Nice! >>140289487 Realistic Sonic costumes would be very popular. Who wouldn't want to roleplay with/as the Hero of Mobius? >>140289533 I was honestly surprised that comic was still going. I figured it was just office calendars by now >>140289629 Neither can Sega!
It’s bizarre to describe that a company would trust what another continent does writing a large-scale comic for them while barely even checking what they do It’s like those horny Fairly Oddparents comics you sometimes see from spain, but Archie Sonic is the biggest western videogame comic ever
>>140289629 the paranoid ramblings of a company after being blown to shreds after a bunch of their western fans slandered and burned the entire franchise because of a buggy game with shit internal production
>>140289629 By 10 years time, the canon as they're currenlt trying to "fix" will be in another mess yet again. So basically, dont care too much about canon
>Never got a Fleetway/Archie crossover. >Never got a moment where Archie Sonic remarks that the people on Fleetway Sonic's Mobius seem to have issues. >Fleetway Sonic: “No, mate, they're good people. They're just very expressive.” >A building explodes in the background and some guy appears yelling “I AM THE OCELOT! YOUR NEW RULER! KNEEL BEFORE ME!” and people start cheering. >Fleetway Sonic: “Ignore that. I'll take care of it.”
>>140289686 >the canon as they're currenlt trying to "fix" this is why i can't take this shit seriously. 'they' is completely misconstrued and the 'fixing' isn't even real fixing, it's illusory shit.
it's a play by the americans to create advertisements on social media. sonic team is literally doing nothing at all
>>140289629 It's whatever Sega thinks works. And they'll pretend prior canon doesn't matter and ignored 99% of everything else that happened. Then they change their mind and it's a 180 for the next game. There's no sense of continuity in the games and yet they want to act like there is.
>>140289629 >Unleashed was kind of a standalone thing Eggman finally building Eggmanland notwithstanding >The Pontac-Graff era was something of a soft reboot. this is where the notion of "2 Worlds" came from >Now with Frontiers, shits fucked because they're basically trying to do an unholy combination of what DC tried to do with Rebirth and is currently doing with Dawn of DC/Infinite Frontier/Whatever. So basically >>140289666
>>140289668 I don't think Sega expected the comic to survive as long as it did, honestly. Heck, Sega of America were famously hands-off with the comic most of the time, to the point of Ken realizing he could do practically anything with Knuckles.
>>140289637 SoJ not realizing that when one of main factors of Sonic's creation was to appeal to the west was pretty stupid. You'd think that just have a japanese guy who knew english to oversee things.
>>140289706 Fleetway would warn Archie Sonic not to live in the city, or settle in any one place really. Archie would ignore him cause ego and cause Fleetway is too aloof to pester about it. Then all the citizens start demanding he do menial chores for them and when he starts refusing they riot because he’s not doing his “job”
>>140289771 I feel like that shit is smoke and mirrors. You're not gonna see much in the games. The lore is gonna be whatever Kishimoto or Iizuka wants it to be, with the "Lore Team" just being a buffer to make us westerners think Sonic has this whole library of sacred lore so we won't bitch.
>>140289763 Same. I'm still planning on cleaning up those scans someday >>140289771 They had one in the 90s and 00s. Maekawa and Yoshimura were part of it for a while
Whenever I think about how screwy Sonic lore is my mind always thinks about how it feels like Silver is just sort of constantly around for no particular reason
>>140289814 THIS only the americans ever talk about or mention this lore team. the fucking japanese like iizuka and kishimoto don't know shit about any lore team and they don't nearly gas it up the way the west does. why the fuck are there so few people aware of this
>>140289834 My favorite screwy lore moment is Sonic Forces, as either Two Worlds was inexplicably a thing or all of the humans are just conveniently offscreen.
>>140289828 >Same. I'm still planning on cleaning up those scans someday Sweet! if you ever do it, where do you intend on posting them? I'm intending on translating the comic to my language so they could come in handy
>>140289847 >why the fuck are there so few people aware of this Because people want it to be true, myself included. Frankly it should be true. This franchise has a lot of cool lore that's used once and then discarded >>140289862 >portal Another mysterious portal that's never seen nor referenced, just like tru worlds!
>>140289883 but if ian says it on a podcast it's 100% okay. americans are so lobotomized they won't tell the difference. they're too busy arguing on twitter to tell
>>140289898 >Frankly it should be true. but it isn't. fuckin hell if people paid more attention then it would be true, cause you'd have people upholding it instead of looking to square up over on twitter
The top 5 worst things that happened to Archie Sonic: 1. Penders 2. Sega of Japan 3. Archie not wanting to do licensed comics anymore 4. Kaminski 5. Sega of Japan
>>140289890 Probably the mega, and definitely The Ride website >>140289933 It's just frustrating that even casual Sonic fans care way more about the franchise than the people working on it
>>140289911 We got a baguette person here! just joking but thats neats to learn, Have you read this by any chance btw? Also good luck on that translation when you get to it, knowing the STC fandom, im sure theres some other french to help with that
>>140289909 At this point, Ian is just a means to keep people like us quiet since he's basically become "the face" of Sonic having a story now, and besides, Ian also gets to pay his bills because people give him money to answer questions on his podcast, whether they're accurate, slightly off, or completely misinformed.
>>140289961 that isn't even true either cause that would imply the fans are holding their feet to the fire. the fact they're falling for this fraud in the first place is precisely why they're going ahead with this fiction in the first place.
>>140289960 That's super lame, they could have a cool visual in the background of games but do nothing >>140289957 I think they said he used chaos control but went with the portal thing to explain why he doesnt just go to any moment specifically at this point. Its still unexplained bs tho
>>140289993 I'm saying they're more interested and engaged with the storytelling/lore than Sega is. Honestly, the biggest problem with Sonic fans is that we never hold Sega accountable for anything
>>140289969 Oh yeah i have! We storytimed it during the fleetway ride. Kind of a shame it was so short lived. >Also good luck on that translation Thanks!
>>140289862 The Portal thing doesn't line up with TSR(Where he can accept an invitation and not stop a disaster) or Colors(where he can just go to the past to hang out)
>>140290006 Picrel said Chaos Control but now they're trying to say he can't control his travels at all. Which sucks for him because every other time/dimension hopper can.
>>140290106 The End still being alive would undermine the story of the game and what the Ancients went through to stop it, according to Ian. The book is basically closed on it.
>>140290136 They should just give Silver a Time Machine and call it a day. His template Future Trunks uses it. Might as well fulfill his full role in it.
Also, a Sonic Channel comic had Silver use Chaos Control to go back in time, I think.
>>140290136 They're doing it so people will stop asking questions why he cant go to any point. Tho it raises more on why the portal thing is doing that to him
>>140290179 Archie got it right with the Time Stones and Knights of Kronos gig. That gave him something tangible to aspire to and let him have his own set of gems like Blaze.
>>140290186 I'm just going to assume it's Mephiles crating the portals for shits and giggles. It's not like Sega will ever explain it! >>140290195 Then he should keep those questions for his podcast >>140290244 Yeah, that would've been cool
>>140290234 When they finally explained Nega's origins (He's from the future), there was still the mystery for why he has his schemes in Blaze's dimension and we're still getting silence on this.
>>140290243 They'd have to code it from scratch since Maekawa is the only one who knows how it works >>140290268 >we're still getting silence on this That's sadly the case for so many things in this franchise
>>140290254 The had the chaos emeralds induce time travel in Sonic 06, Silver's debut game which they still reference, so they shouldn't ignore that detail.
>>140290286 >maekawa wasn't it some other japanese name who coded it that they don't have anymore or something >>140290306 >so they shouldn't ignore that detail. anon that's implying sega doesn't ignore a whole lot of things to please the west's fickle temperament
>>140290306 I think they needed two hedgehogs for that in 06 >>140290320 >wasn't it some other japanese name who coded it that they don't have anymore or something Pretty sure it was Maekawa. He also did the A-life for NiGHTS, which are pretty much prototype chao
>>140290268 Nega's origins are a clusterfuck because he doesn't seem to exist in 06(Eggman died and the future is hell) but he exists in Rush which Ian says takes place before 06. Sega has a lot of explaining to do with that guy.
>>140290306 Ah yes but everyone forgot the events of that game so Silver forgot he learned that.
>>140290518 There were probably others working on it too. Unfortunately, most of his roles go uncredited, but he did work on A-life for NiGHTS. They also don't list him as writer for Black Knight. Oh, and here's a page of his Chao in Space-based manga proposal.
>>140290520 >>140290561 Sega's terrible at this, and even lost the genesis-era code sometime after Sonic Jam. There's a reason they need edWhitehead to make the classic ports
>>140290648 Maekawa himself said he pefers doing storyboards since he feels his art's not the best >Originally wanting to become an animator, he gave up on that profession as he felt he lacked the required drawing skills, but upon learning that unit direction (storyboards) and storytelling does not require great drawing ability, he took the opportunity of being in charge of Sonic Adventure 2's story. https://segaretro.org/Shiro_Maekawa
>>140290630 well yeah because no one is using them or expanding on their race, there's at least something to explore with if their species as a whole is violent and unruly, if despite their technomancy have a rural/lower advance culuture or who knows what else
>>140290661 It's unironically part of Shintoist philosophy to discard the old to bring forth the new. The whole "preserving history" thing is a very Western point of view >>140290710 There's been some work on it, but decompiling a game tat size is a massive undertaking. That said, there are some modders that know how the chao garden works
>>140290693 The Zeti are actually a decent concept but no one wants to explore them because the Deadly Six have such lame designs and cookie cutter personas
>>140290725 They don't care about Knuckles. They'll be happy to get more for him but all they want are stuff for their ships, favorite characters, and Shadow. Everyone loves Shadow. Can't get enough of him. Which is why Sega hasn't done anything with him in a while.
