A lot has changed since Archie. Same reason why the planet they're on can't be called Mobius. There are also characters that can only appear in classic era comics. With the comics taking place after Forces, Sega has imposed heavier mandates. The Tailstube video saying that humans are on large continents means that they'll eventually be shown but Sega is obviously not wanting the comics to do it first. That has always been their thing. Sega has to do it first.

The damage is done so that explanation is the best given the circumstances. But it's a bandaid on a dozen gaping wounds. Sega keeps giving lore and creating characters but dropping everything like it never mattered. It's hard to get invested but the majority of Sonic fans will eat it up, get excited for new thing, and even after getting screwed over they'll come back for more.
