1) Rouge is very prominent in this game, and I love it for that.

Personally, I think his portrayal in 06 is a bit overrated. Not saying it's bad, don't get me wrong, but I think most people highlight it more than what it is because most of what he does involves Team Dark.

The main points are mastery of Chaos Control (to the point where he can do it even with a fake emerald), and the way he says Maria's name and "sayonara Shadow" at the end. It's a lot of little things really, but Shadow gets under Sonic's skin in a way Metal never did. Metal's always referring to himself as the real Sonic, but Sonic never gets angry or calls him a faker. Sonic's recognizing something about Shadow that makes him profoundly uncomfortable. There's also how uncomfortable about being trapped in a cell covered in Gerald's handwriting. He's been captured before, but he's never been this on edge. He also repeats a lot of Shadow's line in a way that seems more like he's trying to remember something. He was clearly alive for a while on Prison Island, since the cell is covered in writing, that and he had time to record the video that plays at the end of the game. My guess is they discovered he'd implanted his will (i.e., fake memories) into Shadow so Shadow would enact his revenge, so they executed him and sealed Shadow away for 50 years

Thanks for the elaboration. It is an interesting theory, thought I think the prison scene and "Shadow gets under Sonic's skin" points are too convoluted.

That being said, the overview does raise some very interesting points. I'm a huge fan of SA2 and glad to see more people have similar feelings and conclusions towards the "Shadow's memories being fake and all that" plot point. And the ambiguity raised towards the end of the game about Shadow having met Maria or not.

NTA, but I agree. Another point is, Gerald's (unaltered Japanese) dialogue when Rouge's reads his diary is highly overlooked. And trust me, it is brilliant.
If you see it with Japanese subtitles, you see he starts talking very normal, but as the tragedy strikes and he goes insane, he starts talking "crazy". How do they reflect that? By having Katakana replace Hiragana and viceversa.
