There definitely is, it's just that we're never allowed to see it. I doubt anyone outside of SoJ has, except for maybe the writers at Paramount. Ian's almost certainly never seen it, the procedure is for writers like him to submit questions. They also get notes and revisions on the stories/comics they submit.

It has to exist since Kiyoko Yoshimura and (previously) Maekawa were on the lore committee of Sonic Team. Stuff like Sonic and Eggman's origins must have been touched on (and written down!) at some point.

There's heaps of continuing plots and character development that all get blown away in Colors:
Sonic 1 through to SA2 was all part of a continuing plot covering Eggman's rise as a villain and his persuit of the chaos emeralds (and later master emerald).
S3&K to SA2 could be considered the storyline of the master emerald, with all of the events in these games directly arising from Pachacamac's slaughter of the chao.
SA2 to 06 covers Shadow's character development, from weapon to hero.
SA1&2 covers Tails' becoming a hero in his own right, with Heroes to 06 showing him as a brave hero.
Sonic's character development peaks in Black Knight, showing a mature hero that's as capable of defeating the bad guy as he is at dispensing thoughtful advise. Colors onwards it's all memes and never considering the consequences of his actions

Yeah, the Virgin Books even outright name the planet Mobius. Though they're pretty weird in terms of characterization (Tails uses a LOT more surfer-bro lingo in them).
