Sally's an acquired taste. Some don't like how she acts and how she seems to steal the spotlight from Sonic. The way I see it, Sally was made to counter Sonic who isn't a saint himself. They clash and seem to enjoy it at times. She's business first, pleasure later. Can come across as cold and mean but she's all heart and assuming a lot of responsibility which is why she acts the way she does. Amy's personality is more standard and easier to self insert as. Girls are more likely to want to be Amy and guys would like a sweet girl like her. It's really down to personal taste, like Betty and Veronica. And so some people that like one girl HATE the other. But I prefer Sally because I like tough girls that get shit done. Romancing a girl like that shows another side to them you don't see all the time. Amy's fine when she's allowed to be more than Sonic's fangirl.

That was Ian getting Sonic and Sally together. He felt that having them be a couple so soon wouldn't work so he had them make up, be close friends, and Sally dated Khan to realize that she still loved Sonic. I don't think that was necessary and it did suck that it took him so long that they were together briefly, she got turned into Mecha Sally, and the reboot happened right when Sonic got her back. That's why I appreciate comics like ASO that does its best to give us what was denied. Also probably why I don't care for Sonic Retold.
