From Heroes up until very recently, Knuckles being the guardian of the Master Emerald just stopped being a thing, Knuckles was always just there for the ride even when he had zero reason to be there (06 being a very egregious example). Fans constantly complained about it, and now that they've got it, it essentially benches Knuckles into a background character, and fans are complaining. What did they expect to happen?
