Anything by DoomFox is pretty good, barring some spelling and grammar issues. The Butterfly Effect is another great one so far, and rather short. Theres also the Little Hands, Big Attitude series starring a reborn Mephiles in the Movie Continuity. Tales of Sonic the Hedgehog is a major merger of Archie with a bunch of other continuities, but has a few OC's and is really long. Appendingfic also has some good stuff.

The majority of it comes down to trawling AO3 for the good stuff and filtering out the trash by hand.

I easily remember the things I liked, such as the Bad Guys storyline, and whenever either Eggman or Starline do literally anything.
If I take a moment I just remember everything I don't like.
Some of which no-one here will agree with me on. Some almost anyone will.
Things like Belle, every hero sapping my will to live with how grumpy and angsty they are, and stories not ending inside the same cover they start in (I'm fine with multi-parters, I just don't want the last 1-2 pages used to create a cliff hanger to advertise the adventure continuing next month... tell me about the cliff hanger when I can impulse buy it, like comics traditionally do on the cover, not when I can't have it, it ruins the fun of the story I was just reading).

IDW has been over to me since its birth in truth, since I understand it's not for me. Supposing I would like it, I wouldn't really enjoy Surge anyway, just as much as I dislike Scourge, despite their widespread popularity, as I don't particularly enjoy the tropes are they firmly based on. I prefer more characters like Suppression Squad, or Shadow for that matter. Kitsunami is only a side-kick, though I think he should've been rather the star across the arcs.

Although there are IDW characters I enjoy, they are unlucky enough to be ones who are relegated on their tertiary roles, sadly. Worse yet, I actually like a lot the Diamond Cutters, so finding out they are fallen ones didn't help matters on my interest.

Yeah, it's really not for me. That's partly why I'm here for the fancomics, whose passion know to bring up the Archie charm.

And I actually checked this comic DOES only update in January and December (okay, also once in November and once in April). Look like the artist can only work on this when in the mood.
