Sonic's arrogance and selfishness ranges from "whatever pisses off my enemies" to "the world revolves around me." In general I think Sonic fits in the middle but Archie, Fleetway, and SatAM are definitely not humble. Sonic needs to be confident because he's the one people feel inspired by. He's kind of like Hal. He doesn't believe in failure and will find a way to win. But no matter what, Sonic has a heart of gold and an aura so pure he can't be corrupted (most of the time) and has a dozen chosen one prophecies attached to him.
