I thought you'd never ask! If it's just fancomics then: Heart of a Monster, Darkness Falls (recently done), Sonic Unbound (if you like READING), Ghosts of the Future, The Murder of Me, Sonic the Continuation and others of the sort are pretty good but they're long. Heroes Come Back is of decent length, but short enough you could finish it in an afternoon.

For straight fics though, then Making Space on AO3 by Humanities_Handbag is probably one of the best post-second movie Sonic fics out there, and pretty much entirely revolves around Sonic undergoing intense middle child syndrome. Ohana and its sequel Birds of a Feather are also extremely good. There are a few other decent picks, but those are the best out of the mire of shit and either shipping between Stone/Robotnik, shipping between the Wachowski brothers, or just outright actual rape fics.

And I've yet to find some truly outstanding fics for either the Modern or Archie continuities, so no dice there.

I hope for more comics with either the Hooligans or Chaotix in bigger roles.

I'm a big fan of Unleashed (and Sonadow) so I'm really enjoying this take on the story. The game's story was always a little weak so giving Sonic's friends a useful role and having the Werehog transformation get progressively worse would is a huge improvement.
