It's based on supply and demand. If an artist is in demand then they can charge more. But if they don't get a lot of people then they have to lower their prices to get work. I assume most artists will want consistent commissions that they like doing. It is possible to make a living off of commissions, especially furry and/or fetish art. Maybe they only need to make a grand a month because they have roommates or live with family. Making less would mean that they might have another job and doing commissions is a side thing. It just depends on the person and their situation and money needs.

I need to see if this artist is more active outside of DA because they really do nail down the Yardley style. But their DA gallery barely has anything.
