The reboot stuff was so good. The integration of the comic characters into the games, and using the games as the backstory was honestly brilliant. My speculation is that the fanbase felt collectively called out hard by it. We all remember everyone making jokes about OCs being an official mechanic.

It's like, once SEGA tried to actually monotize OC creation, everyone suddenly felt this wave of shame and horror wash over them.

Thats already a lot more effort in including new characters compared to IDW in my opinion.

Yeah, aside from Cassia and Clove, the other egg bosses had more of a promise of being good characters instead of being developed.

But that doesnt mean the way they were presented didnt make them interesting to the readers.
They also had some defining personality or background that made them stand from eachother as well.
Would you call that neutering, or just underdevelopment ?

Also, I think the pirates from the chaotix story fit into the above as well. Ian obviously had something planned for them in the future.

As for the rest of the reboot only cast, maybe Phage ? But then, she felt like just a robotic villain made for Nicole.
