We've had several comics where Sonic was the shining hero, even one where he was literally dead but still shrugged it off to be a good hero. Hell, TMOM had him being fine up until he killed his mom (which is understandable) and speaking as the guy who dumped several pages of it (fuck you all for that by the way), Blue Prisoner has him still snarking and making jabs both before, during and after his intensive torture. He gets fucked up there for sure and scarred for life most certainly, but never TOTALLY broken. If anything, it's Tails who's the worst off.

The only reason he's such a sad sack in this comic is because he's been here since he was a kid, never having the chance to face Eggman and build up his trademark attitude and heroics.

I know a lot of people hate Ash, but I'm okay with him. He got Mina happily paired up so that she wouldn't be single and available for more bullshit romance drama. He did have his character flaws (short-tempered, possessive, got jealous easily), but it's more entertaining when characters have flaws. And while Ash took his anger issues out on Sonic, he still seemed to be a caring boyfriend to Mina.

Ash's whole shitshow with Sonic stems entirely from when Sonic was absent in space and him and Mina getting together in that timeframe (reminder that he was just instated as her manager around then), and at some point figuring out that Mina had an extremely strong crush on Sonic. THIS is what made him extremely paranoid and insecure over Sonic, making him prone to starting fights without the slightest provocation. Sonic didn't even try to get with Mina after she got with Ash, it was all Ash going maximum schizo and assuming NTR where there was none to be found. Mina even told him as much.

The only way his seethe could even be remotely justified is if this were Light Mobius, and by all indications he and Mins never even met in that reality, assuming he even exists. As it is, he started lashing out at Sonic over shit that wasn't even there.

The only thing that got Mina to stop being a vapid slut was Ash nearly dying to save her and getting hospitalised. Only then does Mina suddenly think “huh, maybe I SHOULDN’T forsake my actual boyfriend who cares about me for the asshole celebrity who’s just using me as a rebound for Sally”.
