Remember, it was a plot point in the crossover that Eggman fired the genesis wave once before, so for it to fit the reboot Ian had to find some other instance to fit it in. Meaning that for most of their untold adventure, it was a fake Nigel who was king. Which make his good relation with Sonic a bit weak, in that issue. And no one act as if Nigel had only been just recently liberated after years of being absents and having a fake impersonator.
Either that or it wasn't the first time Naugus pretended to be Nigel. Which might be embarrassing for everyone. Maybe Knuckle is not that dumb, comparatively and everyone is as foolable as him.

I hate that this is what's become of Naugus by the end of the comic. He's the centerpiece of the best drama the comic's ever had since Flynn took over, and then the Pendering hits and he's turned into filler.

The color differentiations and the fact that you can still see suckers on his hands and the soles of his feet were directions from Sega so that nobody would be confused that the actual character was doing something bad or wrong. In that regard try to treat it as more of a visual shorthand and not necessarily something that is canon canon. It's a stretch but it's just one of those things that Ian has to work around. As for how would it look with characters like Shadow or Silver, maybe a dusty or gray shade on Silver and a lighter black on Shadow or a more orange tinged spine. No he can't take off accessories as it would be tearing off his own body and they wouldn't stay transformed if he did.

That's also how we got official art of Sonic Man in 2024.
I will miss him. No, actually, I have always been missing him, and anything related to. Without going on your everyday spaghetti tangled up declaration for why a character is a good or not, he means a lot to me. I love his design, I love his simple character and most notably, thanks to me watching SatAM as kid, otherwise I wouldn't be reading Archie on my own and end up loving it wholeheartedly, much less remodel for the better my passion for him. I had shed tears like a crybaby on that day, 2017.
Rest well, Rotor Walrus. May you be remembered by many more forward, me included, and that maybe someday, you will be in a comic I will be making eventually, starring as you, smutty or not.

IIRC this was the birth of the Rock-sama meme. That Eggman gets decked by a rock is one thing but then we noticed it happening to various characters and being very effective in knocking them out. Infamously it was the bane of Tails' existence in the Sonic the Continuation pages drawn by Dreamcastzx.
