Mega Man #53-55, Sonic Boom #11, and Castaway Two comic cancellations in one thread?! What a deal! First up, it’s the start of Mega Man 4’s arc, then it’s Blues realizing he fucked up, and then Ian runs us through hundreds of issues of stories that he’ll never get around to! After that is the last issue of Sonic Boom! Not much to say about it other than it focusing on Eggman. And finally, a short origin story for Razor aka Knuckles-if-he-was-a-shark.
Question: What did you think of Mega Man? What did you think of Sonic Boom?
>>142565005 >question Mega Man was a pretty damn good and heartfelt, I feel, tough I might be biased on my love of Astro Boy and other things that explore being a robot. Sonic Boom was funny.
...which is why my sadness and my hatred of dumb editors is unmeasurable right now.
>>142565005 >What did you think of Mega Man? What did you think of Sonic Boom? Archie Mega Man was the platonic ideal of 8/16bit video game adaption into comics/actual story.
It was a product of love for the franchise and you could tell it. It shouldn't have ended so abruptly.
>>142565005 >Ian runs us through hundreds of issues of stories that he’ll never get around to! I'm looking forward to seeing the reactions o newcomers to issue 55. It's the actual most frustrating thing.
>Question: What did you think of Mega Man? Legit one of the best video game adaptations I've ever read.
>What did you think of Sonic Boom? It's good. Basically just the show, but drawn.
>>142565005 >Question(s) I like them both! Boom's Eggman is my favorite thing about Boom. And with Mega Man, there's a lot of characters I really liked, but I wish he wasn't hampered down by that damn thing we read. He could've gotten to VI (or maybe he'd be at 11, you know, with a living comic...).
>>142565035 This, I feel this deeply. Honestly I feel like the crossover stuff was the biggest blow against it. It was too young for such convoluted storylines. If it had been allowed to play in its own sandbox, conceivably even WITH crossovers within the Mega franchise, it could have been good. But having seen the crossover shit I don't really get how they could reconcile all that mess back into a coherent storyline.
>>142565005 >Question: Mega man was a good book that really tried to give gravitas to such a simply silly series, sort of justify it being the same timeline as X, Zero and ZX etc. If only it was released when Capcom and the public gave a shit about Mega man
Boom meh, the last issue was probably the best and they didn't need 3 whole Sonic books if you ask me
>>142565056 Reminder that Guts Man WILL be put offline, his corpse WILL be displayed, then it WILL be stolen by Doctor Wily and remodeled into a monstrosity.
>>142565005 >Question Boom was an excellent in-spirit continuation of the early Archie comics and Mega Man did a fantastic job of turning games with little story into something compelling. Ultimately, both are fun comics severely let down by crossover interruptions.
Just wanna say that jampole really improved. Love his art here >>142565098 >>142565109 This night still hates machines but has his robot eye still >>142565103 Ben and Blues exist for suffering. God said so
>>142565126 That middle section perfectly displays a big difference between Eggman and Wily, despite his despot front he wants actual comradery so much that he basically orders his robots to do so
>>142565005 >Two comic cancellations in one thread?! It was all worth it to see Ameterasu be absolutely ineffective for three panels! 10/10 would bankrupt Archie for it again!
>>142565209 WHO ELSE BUT SNAKE MAN?! >>142565195 She's not lonely anymore! She's got a whole water based squad to work with to fight dastardly polluters!
>>142565204 There's a part of archie Wily who isn't a complete irredeemable monster, that's one of the things that endeared me to this take on the series, there was an actual moment where he could have gone straight and fixed his life, and he fucked it all up by his own actions.
>>142565251 Fire Man is that bro you could tell anything and he'll always have something comforting to say. And he'll do it with a Southern accent and add in some justice talk, too!
>>142565156 Archie books never left this side of the globe, meaning any japanese fans it MIGHT had were already bilingual and just read whatever random imports it got from by stores that sell western comics over there
>>142565263 >his smile and optimism: gone Light just wanted to help his friend and invent robots with him. Wily drove his BFF into the arms of that HARLOT Lalinde!
>>142565073 Without the context of virus fuckery poisoning his brain, Sigma's Reploid rebellion honestly makes a lot of sense given the existential horror of robots
>>142565262 the Spiderverese films, he's a one off joke character whos bit is about how overly angsty and dramatic characters like him of that era were
>>142565228 >WHO ELSE BUT SNAKE MAN?! Wew! >>142565253 Ultimately, Wiley and Eggman are their own worst enemies and always allow their ego to sabotage any chance of success or happiness
>>142565277 This makes it sound like this person is blaming the fact that it emphasized the original game settings that it didn't progress much and got cancelled, which I entirely object to. I really badly wanted a good adaptation of the original games' stories. Honestly, if I'd known it was fated for this kind of ending I'd have supported it while it was still running, but as it stands I came too late.
>>142565356 I know the gag comics at the end of issues get some kind of leeway but I wonder if the main comic could've brought in the Ruby-Spears Mega Man and even the one from Captain N.
>>142565378 >>142565357 >Do you think rock secretly likes fighting. Realizing it gives him purpose in a sick way He caught some of that WAKU WAKU from Sonic. >>142565377 And that feeling is going to double with the next issue.
>>142565390 >That version of Ben and Miguel will how they will be portrayed from now on Seeing all fanart be of movie Miguel makes me die a little inside
>>142565323 I like the way the book keeps playing up the various game events. It's just a never ending streak of turmoil. It uses the repetitive nature of the franchise as a plot point.
>>142565378 >brought in the Ruby-Spears Mega Man and even the one from Captain N. You know what? Worlds Collide should've have various versions of characters popping in and out.
>>142565406 At least some people get more aware of the edge of time him. With it showing how dumb the canon event shit is and how they acted in the movie
>>142565463 Again, I feel like one of the worst parts of the books sudden cancelation is that it happened when Ryan finally just hit the fuckin nail on the head for matching the official artstyle
>>142565444 I just kills me because movie Miguel is legitimately nothing like the original. They share no similarities, even Nueva York doesn't look right
>>142565463 >Despite being an infuriating character because of his stubbornness, he's still interesting and seeing his growth is great. The reason he's so frustrating is because we all know he's better than this. We want him to go home because he is ultimately a good person who's just being a dumbass. Blues deserves happiness, but he needs to get the fuck over himself first.
>>142565538 Wait, and the lion's supposed to be the bad guy? >>142565552 We really will have to storytime it at some point >>142565560 This is why no one likes you Wiley
>>142565609 My final reminder as I seem to do on this ride is to remind that early on in the book Kalinka was drawn with the similar physique to Roll and Tempo's ambiguous tween age bodies but here she's drawn like her cannon age of around 6
>>142565545 >>but didn't he tell knuckles about his core in worlds u-- >DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT Well seeing as it seems to take place before world Unite anyway...
>>142565253 >There's a part of archie Wily who isn't a complete irredeemable monster Yet. He was slowly getting worse and I feel like he would have attempted murder at some point if Archie didn't old yeller the book.
>>142565356 Wow, if only we got to see what happens here. I guess having a massive expensive crossover with a bunch of irrelevant IPs punching sigma clones on endless splash pages was a much better use of time.
>>142565754 Wily learned how to gaslight from Eggman. >>142565747 Or rather Vesper and Roll team up to get Tempo and Blues to go out and it all falls apart and both sisters get a scolding.
>>142565676 There could have been a moment where he'd realize how far off the deep end he'd gone. The problem, I think, is that a story like this really would have needed an ending at some point.
>>142565713 So did Noelle make her daughters high tier waifus on purpose, or what?
Also >unused robot master Hard confirmation of the obvious. Vesper is based on Honey Woman, would supposed to be in MM9, but Capcom didn't want, gasp, TWO female robot masters. So scandalous.
>>142565754 >>142565785 I mean, on the one hand, this means that he probably actually did mean to legitimately fix Blues' core to the best of his abilities at the time. Maybe.
>>142565838 It's weird that Blues says he wants to go back to Light one day since Worlds Collide made it seem like Ian wanted Proto Man to resent Light forever (like he does in the games). I wonder if Ian's plan was for Proto Man to get mad at Light again over something else. Maybe during MM5?
>>142565886 >Shadow goes up to GUN Mountain forces daily brooding >He sees the Light Siblings enjoying the view >He withdraws cooly. >In fact maybe he'll go take Hope for Milkeshakes.
>>142565896 >'WERE GETTIN CANCLED, IAN THE FUCK DO WE DO!?" >"JUST SHOW A PLOT SNYOPIS POSTER FOR EVERY OTHER GAME AND SERIES, WE'RE NEVER COMING BACK!"
>>142565560 This was said in the World’s Unite thread as well but it bears repeating. That’s not how nuclear power works. They aren’t detonating bombs for power.
>>142565896 >55 And so we reach one of the most frustrating issue of a comic book series ever printed. This is up there with Teen Titans animated's last episode for me.
>>142565960 I think his core being breached would be a legitimate radiation hazard, but yeah, the threat of explosion would more just be some bullshit Wily made up knowing most people wouldn't call him on it.
I still can't believe Bison teamed up with the heroes and we didn't get >I can't believe we have to work with the monster tha- >Yes, the monster that killed your father. What is it with you women anyway? I killed MY father too and you don't see me whining about it!
>>142565993 Wait, those three on the bottom, the journey to the west robots, I recognize those from the manga adaptation, were they actual characters? I didn't think they'd actually been in any games.
>>142565993 Well, this is just straightup an embelishment on Quint's part there. >>142566007 So, with her bonding with Blues and whatnot, there's no way Tempo wouldn't have a big role in the MM5 arc, right?
>>142565987 Hey at least Teen Titans ending was supposed to MEAN something, it just flew over everyones head because it was both a action kids cartoon and a comic book cartoon, those things usually don't bother with telling a lesson like it did so artistically
>>142565849 interesting how this song was originally meant to be in Shadow the Hedgehog. I could see it being a better final boss theme than I Am All Of Me
>>142566074 I legitimately long for a good adaptation of the NES games, I even got the Mega Mix and Giga Mix volumes, but they're all mixed up chronologically, I don't know what the fuck the deal is with these things. I think the Master Mix comics are supposed to be lining them up in order but there's only two volumes of that out.
>>142566095 This cover implies that Rock and Blues would've actually started working together with 8 and it makes me mad we'll never get it. Even in 9 and 10 the story is so light (heh) that you never actually get any interactions between them
>>142566136 >why do they look so sad I don't know, maybe giving self-awareness to robots and still expect them to be thrown away like trash when their time limit expire has consequences?
>>142566101 Wew! >>142566111 I get he was pissed at the cancellation, but wrapping up the current plot and ending on a high note with the characters confidently looking toward the future would've been a much better send off
>>142566153 I don't even know how you could wrap up the current plot he was working on in just a single issue or 2 plus again crossover ate up time and money
>>142566187 See, what's interesting is that this page being here implies that the comic would've actually done a Cataclysm Theory story. Which is... bold, to say the least. Like, would Capcom let him do that?
>>142566206 Plap plap it's Axl! >>142566207 just have Blues decide to tell Light everything, Light fixes his core, and he and Mega Man work together to quickly save the day
>>142566208 The best way I could write it off is "Time travel accident created two parallel versions, one sent to the future and one staying in the present, or even sent to the past" to be found later, idk. It's the only way to make it not depressing as hell, though Mega would have to go offline eventually.
>>142566187 I like to imagine that the Quint timeline is one that’s actually peaceful since old Wily there likely died before even getting started on Zero
>>142566233 Only Inafune gave a shit about whitewashing Zero's past, by just ignoring that the first story point had in X4 was piling up a mountain of corpses.
>>142566227 >those form-fitting outfits Wew! >>142566254 There they are, the best character designs in all of Mega Man! >Speedy called. He wants his dia-- I mean "flight harness" back. BOO!
>>142566253 That page is probably the most worthwhile one in the whole issue since it's the only look at the elf wars we ever got in any official capacity.
>>142566297 And here we go! Humanity has been completely replaced by synthetic beings, all traces of the previous civilizations have been erased and forgotten, and the world itself is unrecognizable!
>>142566297 And that was Light tripping on some time drugs. Hard shit. Wouldn't recommend. You'll see your entire family history until the heat death of the universe.
>>142566297 >Man and machine seem to be one I don't know, it sure seemed like some people were a lot less machine than others. I don't think Roll or Tron ever had to tend any injuries with a wrench kit.
>>142566147 Bass is a little fucker that's hellbent on destroying everything Wily makes because by making more robots it implies Bass isn't the strongest one.
>>142566281 Which brings up a plothole in that one page. How can Zero still be in a "transitional" body if Omega is already up and about? By this point, he should already be in his MMZ design, since we know Omega already did.
>>142566356 The MMZ body has always just been an "artstyle" thing, so Zero could've been uploaded to a copy body at any point to have the Maverick Virus studied and Weil might've just stolen it.
>>142566452 I'd love to see someone do that but hate to miss it. I actually bought up Mega Mix and Giga Mix but they're all fucked up as far as order goes. Nothing's in the right order, as far as I can tell. I don't understand the logic.
>>142565278 Seeing this makes me wish we could have seen the fallout event for Light and Wily in the BN timeline. Also, lmao, the captcha I got has three Ws.
>>142566474 >sonic and eggman are actual friends, it’s a conspiracy Imagine if that was the case. All of the things happening was planned by both of them
>>142566489 The fallout in BN was Light got funding for the internet over Wily's robots, they barely knew each other. Lan ends an entire terrorist organization because they fucked up his after school snack unironically.
>>142566496 X Dive's so weird, it made a ton of money for Capcom then they got too involved and shuttered it. At least its story ended way before it shut down.
>>142566534 >Why would anyone be so devoted to a character or franchise and yet spend all their time complaining about it? Hehe, y-yeah... what kind of losers would do that?
>>142566534 Yes....who could possibly devote that much time and effort wasting their life on something they pathetically despise and have to alert everyone else on to their impotent hatred
>>142566534 >Why would anyone be so devoted to a character or franchise and yet spend all their time complaining about it? Imagine if there was a whole imageboard full of them!
>>142566496 >>142566539 Capcom fucked themselves over by keeping the franchise such a sausagefest. You can't make a gacha without lots and lots of waifus, it just doesn't work. They only have a few to work with.
>>142566600 They made as many as they wanted, the real issue was that pvp was a fucking mess and everything near the end was either one shot or get one shotted.
>>142565546 You gotta remember, by the time the American cartoon was airing in 94 to 96, Megaman 6 was the newest game on the block (with 7 coming about not long after) and the games only plot was "Stop Wily" they had to make up some bullshit.
>>142566615 I find it funny that that this talk isn't ironic since Boom Sonic has his own home while some other Sonics don't and bum out on Tails' couch.
>>142566563 It's not fair ;_; >>142566572 >And he wrote for Drawn Together too. Very interesting. Huh. I really enjoyed that show, it's so fucked up! The DVD special was pretty good too >>142566585 The fox one is pretty hot but I like them all!
>>142566590 >Imagine being able to order a guy off the internet and he'd be living with you. Mail (internet) order mobian? I've changed my mind, Boom is the best continuity! >>142566615 >That's being pretty general! lmao
>>142566622 >>142566626 Sure, but the problem there is that this is ostensibly an entry in a long running established franchise. New characters are going to be unavoidably subject to the problem of "Who?".
>>142566506 >>142566606 Guy who did all of those here Like I said, I'd do it again, but I'm busy with the PokeSpe one and I've got plans for when I finish that one If you guys want more videogame adaptations, you're welcome to join, we're about to start an arc so it's a good place to jump in
>>142565609 >Mikhail really dropped the ball on teaching his daughter about not talking to strangers. True, but the excuse here is that she was interested in Reggae since her pops was building Beat.
>>142566619 I bought the volumes, but they read out of order.
>Volume 1 is mostly straightforward adaptation of games 1 and 2 >Ends on a chapter that has Shadowman in it but is a standalone story >Volume 2 skips game 3, gets to Bass before you even see Protoman And a large chunk of volume 2 and 3 seem to just be extra content or padding, I don't even know. Why? Whose decision was this? I even tried Gigamix and it's the same issue, I have no sense of the chronology. Is there anywhere to read it in proper order?
>>142566657 Is the version on steam more or less the whole thing or no? It's a bit of a boring slog to play through as it is and if I can't even access the full content there's sure as hell no reason to suffer gacha hell when you can't even gacha anymore.
>>142566732 Here we see Amy about to murder a bug. >>142566729 He looks like he's about to have someone sign a binding contract that will screw them out of all sorts of money.
>>142566705 That's more or less the order, Ariga just stopped adapting the games after 2 He did a 3 adaptation years later as the first Volume of Gigamix
>>142566742 It's basically the same but none of the crossover characters, so you don't get any of the DMC, SF, or Monster Hunter stuff, which is a real shame. But you can just mod them back in.
>>142566776 >sticks will never spy on you while you're looking at porn of her Sigh... >>142566771 It is pretty unsettling that he can see what everyone is doing at any time.
>>142566732 >Spying on Tails while he's sweating? I'm sure Zooey wouldn't mind seeing that, too. Eggman probably sells her a subscription >>142566740 A bit like Soar the Eagle, in that he's a TV personality, only he runs an infomercial channel instead
>>142566743 >He looks like he's about to have someone sign a binding contract that will screw them out of all sorts of money. Patrick Bateman would approve!
Also, fun fact about Gigamix Ariga thought of an OC for it, Piano, basically Forte's Roll, but decided that it'd be better to focus on game characters and scrapped her
>>142566809 Mordred Hood being a infomercial channel guy somehow is so surreal that it oddly fits, odd how he has a new female with him each infomercial though
>>142566876 >>142566872 That's some shit. Then again, as we'll find out, Archie likes to pull the rug under a lot of people. Plenty of unfinished comics we've yet to cover.
>>142566898 >Sega >get the stick out of their asses Anon, Sega executives don't have anuses. Their colons end in a large stick-like protrusion. The stick is part of their bodies.
>>142566919 >Funny thing is I stuck this story here because I felt this thread wouldn't have hit bump limit that fast. lmao, it wouldn't be a proper storytime if we didn't mess up your plans!
>>142566936 The creative team must've been committed as fuck to Meropis. They get two separate arcs, and Razor gets an origins issue. Not complaining, cause it's nice to see some aquatics for once.
>>142566982 I get the feeling they're not allowed to do underwater stories. Gotta stick with generic villages or Eggman bases! >>142566991 >They really are the Marvel civilians of underwater Sonic's World. Or the regular civilians in Fleetway, or Mobotropolis!
>>142566982 >Man, where are the other sea ones and their cities?! Same place as all the insects. Only one or two is allowed to exist at any given time.
>>142566995 Yeah, it's pretty fucked up. I mean, he was never going to get called back up for the role again anyway, but... Yeah. I know we're on 4chan and everything and I know what he did is fucked up, but I can't help but feel like it's a waste any time someone does something like that.
>>142567024 And that's it! Tomorrow at 7pm EST, we're doing Evan's big Silver story in what is probably the only time he'll be allowed to have a future that isn't a wasteland of some kind.
>>142567008 >Just be lucky you're not a game character, Razor. You get to have a backstory and romance! You might even be allowed to have family! Not that we get to see him again ;_; >>142567045 Wew!
>>142566991 >Even before the planet shattered, the people of Meropis were dicks. They really are the Marvel civilians of underwater Sonic's World. Well, New Mobotropolis doesn't have nanites anymore, so we need someone else to fill on the bullying protector waifus. Nicole and Coral would have a lot to talk about.
>>142567241 >Sage is crushing on Bass to Ivo's chagrin >Roll thinks Bass is a jackass >M & Metal is trying to be the responsible siblings and protect Sage >Bass doesn't give a flying fuck about any of this >Wily is too busy cursing at the TV as Light gets another award
>>142566508 The Issue might be whether or not Archie will raise a fuss. Then again, given their history with Work for Hire contracts they might be sufficiently timid to fuck off and stay fucked off.
https://twitter.com/archie_mega Might as well mention it here but there has been an attempt to make a fancomic continuation of the Archie Mega Man series. Since 2019. There's been some work on the first issue posted but things seemed to have stalled for a while again.
>>142567008 Missed opportunity on Rotor, not Sonic leading the story for Razor to tell his life background. It's a nice story still, but Rotor there would've made this a little better for it would reasonate his past grief with Razor somewhat on away off their homelands woe. Could've even been yet another nice wink wink nudge nudge onto Rotor's homosexuality if one wants to go further, show that he's a little flattered and maybe in love there with Razor.
>>142567779 Please come back, so that you can post more like this. :3
>>142567816 Whoever made that was right kek >>142567829 I never left! Also, did you see the Yoink_0 Guts Man art I posted on the other chan? It's in #21.
>>142567829 Couldn't agree more, this really should've been a Rotor and Razor story. Muscular dad-bod is such an underrated look! >>142567868 >Whoever made that was right kek Zavok genuinely does have some interesting moments in the Bad Guys arc, bit it's 90% chest for me!
See you all next thread /co/cksluts! I'm sure you all know the drill by now, tee hee >>142567950 It's an absolute travesty that mainstream fashion has never reached this level >>142567969 lmao >>142567980 They're so cool!
>>142566850 CIA and FBI Reddit and 4chan 4chan and Tumblr >>142566872 >Finding out it was cancelled, from Social Media It baffles me that Archie continues to exist. Far more competent magazines and comics publishers have gone belly up.
>>142567903 >Muscular dad-bod is such an underrated look! Quite literally my one topsy-tipsy headcanon or such over Rotor. Soft-boot primarily but I'm no picky, I just really fucking love to imagine such on Rotor. I could say more but next thread, not right now for obvious reason. Hi. :3
>>142567868 >I never left! Goodie. I'm actually pretty glad to hear. It's also always good to see you too, to resound the sentiment you gave to me in a past recent thread! AND YES, thank you! I will talk to you there soon!
RIP to two good comics. Worlds Unite was such a fuckup. Honestly the Mega Man comic is one of my favorite pieces of Mega Man media. Didn't deserve its low comic sales nor WU messing it up otherwise. Plus the Sonic Boom comic was a fun meta-humor rag that like the cartoon showed off the property in the light it should've been, sans those terrible games.
