Sonic #226-229 Eggman won! Kind of. Resetting the world is but one step of his plan. He’s still got to deal with Sonic in a new world that feels… retro… classic… It’s a new beginning for everyone! In order to stop the mad doctor in this new reality, Sonic can’t do it alone! Luckily, he’ll find new friends to aid him! Hey, these “new” allies sure look familiar…
Question: Which would you rather have, a continuation of the SatAM cartoon series or classic era Sonic but with the Freedom Fighters? Despite sharing various characters and beginning, SatAM and Archie are very different.
>>141766713 >Question: Which would you rather have, a continuation of the SatAM cartoon series or classic era Sonic but with the Freedom Fighters? Despite sharing various characters and beginning, SatAM and Archie are very different. The former, but replace Antoine with his Archie self.
>>141766713 >classic era Sonic but with the Freedom Fighters Honestly this. I mostly know the Freedom Fighters from Archie, and I'm more familiar with the game, so seeing them in that universe could be interesting.
>>141766713 I'll never forgive myself for selling my 3 parts of Genesis thinking it would be enough to pay for a hardcover copy, the fuckin issues weren't even a whole year old yet
Question: Can I have more Satam but with art more in line with japan Sonic?
>>141766713 ... Sigh. Look, Genesis itself is a decent story, but what it represents makes it hard to enjoy fully. It's pure excess and corporate tomfoolery. That said, I do love the idea of the Freedom Fighters being in the games, so there's that fun window into an alternate reality.
>>141766957 Damn, guys, I remember saving Sonic's cute chipmunk girlfriend for the first time in Sonic 1. I don't know why they gave him a second love interest in CD though.
>>141766957 Aw, even if this storyline is mandated filler at least is nice to see their classic designs again, though then again this kinda is the start of the nostalgia pandering in Sonic that he needs to veer from
>>141766713 >Question Having them in the classic games feels odd to me, since a lot of what makes the Freedom Fighters interesting is the SatAM setting. That and the classic games deliberately only involve a few characters and have a very different tone to SatAM >>141766761 Oh Sonic, you can check out of Green Hill Zone, but you can never leave! >>141766817 If only Hamlin was this happy to see Sonic!
>>141766988 Which is especially galling because Sonic 4 was fucking shit. ... GOD, Project Needlemouse is still one of the most pathetic and cringeworthy marketing campaign I've ever seen. Sega, do not pander to people who hate your IP basically on principle.
>>141766957 Is there any reason that Antoine has a different last name in the Archie books? I don't mind since it makes the 2 versions more distinct, just seems kind of weird is all.
>>141767083 That's what they get for fucking over their development team leading to 06 releasing practically as damn beta and ruining the perception of the series for a solid decade
>>141766957 Awww! >>141766963 Green Hill's one of the best designed levels in gaming (and it should be since they spent 6 months on it), but I do prefer Emerald since it's built with the spindash in mind >>141766979 >Is it me, or is there something between Sonic and Sally? I ship it! >>141767045 Only in the America version, Europe and Japan call her Amy >>141767092 lmao, she has princess powers
>>141767245 >sally kissing the flicky Another thing from SatAM. Sally kisses! Also girl on girl action! >>141767234 >Only in the America version, Europe and Japan call her Amy I wonder if someone has done a mod replacing Amy with Sally.
>>141767115 >Has there ever been a game where you could recruit or play as a badnik? Feels like a GBA Sonic mechanic. In Tails' Adventure you control the T-Pup, which is pretty close to how I imagine controlling a badnik would be >>141767121 Well he did dress as a princess in that Sonic Channel art with Marine >>141767217 The classic bosses in 3D would be really cool >>141767271 >I wonder if someone has done a mod replacing Amy with Sally. It probably wouldn't be too difficult since only a few sprites would need switching >>141767272 There it is!
>>141767350 >tails does not appear in this issue >>141767338 >In Tails' Adventure you control the T-Pup, which is pretty close to how I imagine controlling a badnik would be It feels like a fun mechanic that Sega should've stole from Kirby.
>>141766713 I finally made it to one of these on time. I've read from issue #1 to this thread on the archive. Feels good to be amongst the Ridebros again. You're the best, Konduktor-kun
>>141767379 >It feels like a fun mechanic that Sega should've stole from Kirby. There's a bizzare amount of parallels between the two series already, they even have a dark and edgy Kirby with Meta Knight >>141767407 >Now for everyone's favorite classic Sonic level! Act 3, where you're chasing Robotnik up the shaft that's rapidly filling with water is just the worst. Even the Sonic CD version toned it down >>141767423 >I do like early Sonic and Antoine's interactions when it is one sided bullying. It's pretty cute >>141767432 The eye shapes are all Spaz too. I'm guessing Yardley's mostly filling in the background art and tidying up Spaz' linework
>>141767423 >I do like early Sonic and Antoine's interactions when it is one sided bullying. Antoine in that last panel looks like he's starting to remember his character development.
>>141767496 >sonic has to save antoine Just like old times... >>141767470 >>141767471 Sonic's turning green with envy. He'll be looking like Scourge soon.
>>141767519 >>141767500 >There's a bizzare amount of parallels between the two series already, they even have a dark and edgy Kirby with Meta Knight That and Sega loves copying from Nintendo. >Act 3, where you're chasing Robotnik up the shaft that's rapidly filling with water is just the worst. Even the Sonic CD version toned it down Funny thing I had less trouble with that compared to the Labyrinth Zone levels.
>>141767442 Same. I've missed so many threads this week ;_; >>141767496 Pic related! >>141767540 It's his superpower! >>141767553 >That and Sega loves copying from Nintendo. You say copying, say improving! >Funny thing I had less trouble with that compared to the Labyrinth Zone levels. Someone didn't plan out the routes around the air bubbles! That one section in act 2 with the underwater floating platforms with the rotating spikes was the worst though, it only gives you a few seconds of leeway even if you time everything perfectly
>>141767543 >>141767559 Flynn didn't want to do this story, which is why it's okay at best. Corporate mandated filler never had much of a chance to be brilliant.
It's especially meh now because Sonic fans have been absolutely assaulted with shallow nostalgia pandering, and the shit got old ages ago. There's simply no novelty in it anymore.
>>141767630 You see, Sonic? Even before Antoine had his ambiguous death, you had a chance. >>141767615 >improving You're now imagining Breath of the Wild with insane pop in.
>>141767665 >You're now imagining Breath of the Wild with insane pop in. Can I imagine a good game instead? I could forgive pop in if it was present in a good game
>>141767559 At least we're getting lots of butt-shots! >>141767608 F >>141767635 It doesn't help that he pretty much already did this issue with Yardley in Sonic X. I do like seeing the classic levels from a non-2D perspective though >>141767665 Oh no, Sally's gone full waku waku! >You're now imagining Breath of the Wild with insane pop in. lmao, I really need to get around to that one
>>141767500 >I'm guessing Yardley's mostly filling in the background art and tidying up Spaz' linework They go over how the artwork was laid out in a sonic grams editorial column, but from what I remember Spaz was only supposed to do the linwork, but it ended up being so detailed, Tracy pretty much was only able to do touching finishes to it.
>>141767441 >Reboots the universe the first time. >It's like the classic games. >Reboots the universe a second time with his new science BFF. >It becomes like the Modern games. Archie Eggman knows something we and the Zone Cops don't.
>>141766713 >Question: Which would you rather have, a continuation of the SatAM cartoon series or classic era Sonic but with the Freedom Fighters? Despite sharing various characters and beginning, SatAM and Archie are very different. I'd want a finale season for SatAM. I only want to see the Freedom Fighters in modern.
>>141767441 The worst part is that it was the classic games, and not the OVA. If we had Sara and failing-to-hide-his-accent Sonic, there would be far fewer complaints.
>>141767721 Honestly, it kinda is, yeah. The classic setting just doesn't have that much going on. I find it hard to get invested in a world with no one in it.
>>141767708 >Scrap Brain It means the developers picked cool-sounding English words >>141767731 That makes sense, I couldn't see Spaz just stopping at rough sketches >>141767749 It works well as a sinister city, but Eggmanland works better as a twisted amusement park >>141767811 It's so lovingly rendered! >>141767838 Antoine you slut!
>>141767838 It is funny how impractical the final boss of Sonic 1 is, but I don't need some shitty Dorkly visor to go into why and be unfunny/regurgitate tired out disingenuous sonic criticism to know that
>>141767813 I have NEVER understood this weird piston mech thing. It's legit the stupidest Egg mech because it's pretty much guaranteed to kill the pilot.
>>141767948 >>141767938 The only thing that doesn't make sense is for Eggman to be in them when they're trying to hit Sonic. But it's the first game, I'll give eggy a pass.
>>141767922 >>141767948 Take notes future Ian, this is how Sonic vs Eggman conflicts should end. Sonic whooping Eggman while the good Doctor mysteriously survives with no explanation.
>>141767889 The worst part is there's no way to predict which tube he'll be in so it just draws things out >>141767938 I like to think he hastily repurposed some elevators and Tesla coils since he never expected Sonic to get that far. He's way more prepared in the later games (ignoring CD)
>>141768023 Yeah that's how I always saw it, less Sonic doesn't want to kill him and more genuinely can't cause guy is like a Roach that just won't die
>>141768024 The Tojo clan disbanded after two buff shirtless dudes fought on the rooftop of their headquarters. We should have Sonic Advance 4 anyday now!
>>141767934 >The fact that we never got best girl Sara in the comics is a travesty We got her in one panel in issue #101. But yeah, what a fucking crock that Sega has this weird hateboner for the OVA.
>>141767900 It's so damn stupid and pointless that classic and modern are also separated by gameplay style. Literally for what purpose?
>>141768084 >It's so damn stupid and pointless that classic and modern are also separated by gameplay style. Literally for what purpose? Classicfags bitching nonstop for a decade, that's what.
>>141768123 >snively: uncle, why does the death egg look so creepy? >eggman: i don't know, it weirds me out too! thank god we don't see it while we're in it!
>>141768047 >Sonic and Tails already know each other You think Tails' Adventure happened in this version of reality? It was supposed to be a canon prequel at the time.
>>141768069 Nah, this is a holdover from SatAM. Tails had it kinda bad for Aunt Sally.
>>141768000 I still think that sounds cool >>141768013 >knuckles does not Boo! >>141768023 Showing the crafty ways he survives would be a cool way to end the issue, especially if he's monologuing about his next evil plot >>141768064 Surviving stuff that would kill anyone else is Eggman's superpower >>141768084 >We got her in one panel in issue #101. But yeah, what a fucking crock that Sega has this weird hateboner for the OVA. That barely counts ;_; My guess is the IP rights are murky for the OVA so they never allow anyone to use it
>>141768101 More like haters who shit on the series because of memes.
>>141768126 >Nostalgia. Could they pander to MY nostalgia by remaking the Adventure games? I did play the classic games back in the day, but SA 1&2 are the ones that made me care about all this shit.
>>141768196 >Not going to lie, I would've liked for Lien-Da to be up there as well. I was just about to say. Damn shame we didn't get classic style Lien-Da. ... Hm, a dommy chibi.
>>141768271 >rising water >having to wait for the platform to take you up >missing a jump and going down and having to wait while underwater >that one point where you can get crushed
Is it weird that I'm going to be 42 and I'm attracted to Sally (in a non-creepy way?) FYI, Ian Flynn is the same age as me; since he wants the Freedom Fighters back, does he have a crush on Sally?
>>141768356 >sally: we have to do this! otherwise something bad might happen... like... me being shot to death by a minigun before the universe resets...
>>141768251 >Imagine the Death Egg coming across the Ark. My guess is the Ark's way bigger since they have to park it at a Larange point >>141768271 Cute! >>141768290 Fun fact: those platforms have way less forgiving crushing physics in the remakes (S2, Mania, Origins)
>>141768460 I don't remember Sonic having a radio on him like this in other situations. There is Sonic Boom though. He should have a communicator on him more often.
>>141768440 god, Mania was a blast preaching to the choir here but the fact that they haven't done a sequel with nothing but fully original levels proves Sega can be a real bunch of dummies
>>141768495 >everyone else is safe >tails is flying over an industrial compound filled with traps and enemies >sally and the others are in fucking oil ocean zone Sure.
>>141768460 >I wonder how it feel like controlling Sally, Rotor, and Antoine during these levels. There are undoubtedly a bunch of Freedom Fighter fan games out there. Sally and Twan are speed types, while Rotor is obviously a power type.
>>141768495 That Wing Fortress tho! Real talk, why does Sega insist on always wanking Green Hill? Bring back the actually cool zones like Wing Fortress.
>>141768483 >I don't remember Sonic having a radio on him like this in other situations. There is Sonic Boom though. He should have a communicator on him more often. I shudder to think where he keeps it! >>141768493 I still think they should've went with it >>141768495 Some fantastic art here >Oof! It's maddening! >>141768501 The devs were working on their own original 3D game Penny's Big Breakaway. Also, Sonic Team wanted to move on to 2D games with 3D assets, which is why we got Superstars
>>141768615 Hate those and hate those. >>141768612 >I shudder to think where he keeps it! Hopefully in his glove and not in a shoe. I wouldn't want to use it if he pulled it out of the latter.
>>141768670 >>141768648 I remember seeing an image of all the potential Sonic 4s. Funny how the one with the actual name isn't really considered the definitive sequel to Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
>>141768689 >briefly remembers everything >even the moment before she died >there's even a flashback to her falling during endgame It really hammers how often Sally was killed.
>>141768555 There's grinding in the Advance series! >>141768610 Aquatic Ruin would be so much fun. It's even green so they don't have to go cold turkey! >>141768615 >Pain. Pure pain. Even more considering it was a prototype for Flying Battery! >>141768641 >Hopefully in his glove and not in a shoe. I wouldn't want to use it if he pulled it out of the latter. He should just have a wrist communicator >>141768689 >I remember seeing an image of all the potential Sonic 4s. Funny how the one with the actual name isn't really considered the definitive sequel to Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Sonic 4 was just an unrelated mobile game with classic-style graphics and references some marketer stupidly changed the name of
>>141768689 >"What are those things? What are they even FOR?" I can only associate dialogue like that with MCU stuff and if it wasn't them it'd be shit like Webcomic humor of old
>>141768767 Another "fun" moment from this zone. Even better because they go through walls and you can't hit them on time without getting hit. Hate, hate, hate!
>>141768767 >Sometimes you look at stuff and wonder "why?" To be "fair", in this case it's because Eggman is a psychotic weirdo obsessed with amusement parks.
>>141768721 God the whole "Sonic (who is actually Hershey being convinced into wearing a Sonic costume with lenses that make everyone look like Snively by Drago) kills Sally" thing was fucking insane
>>141768791 >Another "fun" moment from this zone. Even better because they go through walls and you can't hit them on time without getting hit. Hate, hate, hate! Also, they blend into the background if you're colorblind so you pretty much have to memorize where they are! >>141768827 Hyper-realistic masks should be banned
>>141768739 One thing I hate about the MCU was how the made Tony Stark, quip man. Yeah, RDJ is damn good but Comic Tony was never a jointer. And I say that as a RDJ Stark fan.
>>141768917 Thank god they didn't just shoot em down Also Ian makes the characters obey physics so they can't breathe in space, so how the hell is Sonic still alive???
>>141768984 Damn! I don't remember this thing being this agile! Also, Silver Sonic sitting this one out. He'll have to wait until after things go back to normal.
>>141768917 >Yeah I didn't care for Wing Fortress Zone anyway. Fun fact: In Mania going Super makes you faster than the plane so sometimes you'll just fall off the screen and die >>141768947 >Fucking classicfag! lmao >>141768953 Localized oxygen field, probably. Something something, Eggman's got to give Sonic a fighting chance, THE GAME, something something
>>141768934 100% this >>141768986 Cute and canon! >>141769013 It getting blown up every game kinda ruins it as a threat >>141769020 At least they didn't make it egg-shaped like the Death Egg!
>>141769055 Again, it bothers me that the character directly point out that Sonic is built different and does things he shouldn't be able to do. It's like Flynn is trying to imply that the Maekawa thing applies here, but Sega will never just let it explicitly happen.
>>141769162 >4 issues on this instead of the actual story augh I know the walls were closing in with the lawsuit but a little bit more of preboot would've been nice
>>141769162 And with that, Genesis is over and we head back to the main continuity! Not! Tomorrow at 7pm EST we're doing Mega Man! Be there! Because I need that thread to not be a ghost town!
>>141769217 As in the full Mega Man Archie books, or just the Archie Sonic crossovers? Cause I'm not sure how vital the MM books are to understand the crossover.
>>141768791 Can you even destroy the Asterons? They don't drop animals when they blow up, so they're likely just invulnerable traps instead of Badniks.
>>141769297 Games are hard as balls, especially 1. Start with 2 in normal mode and then 3. You can also play X1, a much better balanced game. Then play whichever game you think is most interesting.
What happened over last couple of years? Last time, few Ride thread's could barely make it to the bump limit, and now we constantly hit the bump limit! Where did all these new fans come from?
>>141769297 Well there's the Classic Series >Mega Man 1-6 on the NES >Mega Man 7 and Mega Man & Bass on the SNES >Mega Man 8 on the PS1 & Saturn >Mega Man 9 & 10 on the PS3 >Mega Man 11 on current systems >>141769374 >Now I've got your power!!
>>141769013 Reminder that the Egg Pistons get two appearances, Big Arm only gets one, and Great Eggman Robo doesn't appear at all. Meanwhile we see Death Egg Robot like five times.
>>141769456 I'm just imagining him as the edgy 90's rival the show would have made. >>141769494 >*WHAM* Funny thing, my sister never saw that episode, so when I showed her that clip, she busted out laughing.
>>141769429 ehh, nta but last ride I read all the Mega Man issues up to the first SGW and I just couldn't find a hook. I wouldn't call it bad either but it was just boring/mediocre unironically had more enjoyment reading the brazillian comics because that one has batshit crazy shit happening from the start
>>141769438 https://www.deviantart.com/rockmangurlx There's not a lot of fanart of them compared to other Mega Man characters. Even fewer comics of them. Archie Mega Man is very obscure and not as popular compared to the other parts of the franchise.
>>141769438 Don't forget Vesper Woman! As good as Archie Mega Man was, it was canceled because of low sales. Nobody read it, so nobody draws it. Sucks.
>>141769374 >>141769456 Oh, we got plenty of time to get mad/sad about never evers, since the entire last issue is all about that.
Although I definitely feel you on Bass, because the 7 arc would've been darkly fascinating just to see how Flynn would handle the ending. You know... THAT scene.
>>141769217 Thanks Conductor! Genesis was honestly pretty alright for a mandated nostalgia fest. I've seen bits and pieces of the Archie Mega Man comic and it seemed pretty cool, should be fun.
>>141769587 She's okay, pretty cool even. She unfortunately falls into the same pitfalls of how Ian writes women with their "trauma made them have a ptsd attack, now I can't do anything this arc, please give me a pep talk to get me out of my funk." But unlike with Sally in the reboot or the girls in IDW, this is only something that happens twice and she builds up to have better moments later on, so she is much better handled here. It's almost night and day even.
>>141769672 Bass? He's Wily's attempt at making his own Megaman, even giving him a robot dog name Treble. Massive ego, he believes he's the only one that can beat Megaman and wants Wily to stop wasting his time making other Robot Masters. Introduced in Megaman 7.
>>141769556 >The world could not comprehend the lack of robocest and /u/ it's missing with the Lalinde family
God Archie Sonic had to reboot then was canceled, then Megaman was canceled and New Crusaders, Flynns only non licenced action book goes nowhere. dude just couldn't win
>>141767559 They are... not as thrilling but they are very wholesome, I like them so far. Genesis does a better job making a simpler sonic story than IDW does
>>141769751 I really do feel bad for Flynn. People give him shit for IDW, but frankly I don't blame him for not caring anymore. Giving a shit has only ever ended in misery for him.
>>141769795 HA! Not for lack of trying, as the newcomers will see.
>>141769874 If only the Maverick Hunter X remakes had been able to be done instead of being cancelled because Capcom deliberately made the first game fail by putting on the PSP.
>>141769787 Yep, Bass can back talk Wily all he wants, but Wily is the one who upkeeps him, and since this is pre-free will, Bass can't kill him. Destroy his mechs? Sure.
>>141769882 Okay, maybe the Megaman section of the Ride is gonna be great
>>141769885 I mean I'm sure he cares about working on the games in some way but I think he just misses being able to do as much as actually can. His own little corner with that firm but short leash
>>141769991 >Bass: Oh great, we're teaming up with the Fatass again? >Eggman: Why haven't you remove his voice box yet, Albert? >Wily: Not even 5 minutes in.... >Eggman: Maybe if you put, say, a bomb inside of Finhead-- >Bass: Try it and your brains will be on the wall.
>>141770146 >>141770177 It's not even a question of quality. The "payoff" to Sonic X is the last issue being a largely irrelevant crossover with SU #1 Mega Man is heavily involved in two major crossovers
>>141770236 I'm not complaining about Archie Mega Man having tons of importance to both Worlds Unite and Worlds Collide. Hell I haven't even read it from to start to finish before.
>>141769037 What is to come is going to completely undermine the narrative that this arc sold to us. In the end, love, determination, and good will could not set things back.
>>141769162 To think that this story made us believe that love and determination would not fail. But no... only pain is to come later onmksv4 for all readers.
>>141770318 If I read IDW, I probably would like their feet. I mean, I can still look that stuff up, but it would mean a lot more on a contextual level..
>>141770473 Cons: She's early Geoffrey St John but without the sexually harassing minors part.
Pro: She looks really hot, especially when they get away with drawing her boobs bigger. Adam Bryce Thomas tends to draw her with bigger assets when he draws her outside of official work.
>>141769885 >I really do feel bad for Flynn. People give him shit for IDW, but frankly I don't blame him for not caring anymore. Giving a shit has only ever ended in misery for him.
Yeah... I mean, what can he even do? He's pretty much boxed in. He should just quit already and find something else to do for his sake
>>141770726 Realize I've probably been sent to Mobius, which means I'm absolutely fucked, cause nothing good happens to overlanders that closely interact with Knothole residents. RIP Nate Morgan
Okay I know that this wasn't the most exciting Archie arc but it was very wholesome with sweet moments. It's a nice little story. Ending got my heart being tugged on.
>>141770055 Doubt it Capcom seems to want to do less and less with Megaman or any other franchise that isn't Monster Hunter, Resident Evil or Street Fighter.
