The first twenty or so issues are the most boring and formulaic Sonic comics ever. Sonic and company celebrate a holiday or go on vacation, Eggman builds a giant robot themed around the issue’s gimmick to gain money to build more giant robots, they have a slow and unfunny fight and Eggman is defeated.
Starts to get better once Ian is brought on, builds a legion of doom from minor secondary characters from the show, and generally turns the whole comic into a shitpost. Second half of the comic sometimes feels like a preview to Sonic Boom.

Basically, that story arc was written without the reboot in mind and they decided to keep it since legally it still worked since it was all game characters.
Ian's off-hand explanation was that the Jeweled Scepter protected Blaze's world from the reboot but just like how Sonic and Eggman lost their memories, Blaze's memories eventually adjusted to the new timeline as well.
