You wanna know why Sega has lasted this long? Sega themselves is the only thing even more destructive than Penders with all of their own stupid decisions they have made so far in the 21st century. They will never die because of the Sammy (gambling machines and casinos) side of the parent company which is probably a fucking Yakuza front for all I know. The Sega half of the company will always be secured by the Sammy half's cashflow.

The only people that Penders managed to hurt, were the fans. Even everyone who looked up to him.

He doesn't even have Twitter anymore and barely anyone is buying his book. And yet he keeps trying to convince himself that it was all worth it, dude is gonna OD on copium at this point.

Heroes has a great aesthetic and soundtrack, and a really cool mechanic. It's mostly held back by swapping to a cross-platform engine that makes movement to slippery. Also, the lighting engine is pretty bad, making the characters look like plastic toys

Despite the many many many many flaws the comic has its own distinct flavor that makes me want to read it through the highs and lows
Admittedly I've been getting pretty bored of IDW for a really long time now so this is nice change of pace

I grew up during the 2000's where the only Sonic you could like was Sonic X and the Adventure games. Archie was called furfag bait and SatAM and its fanbase edgelords.

Yeah personally, if I had read IDW first, I probably would’ve enjoyed it more. But thanks to an ex, I went down the Archie rabbit hole almost 3 years ago.

IDW has some good moments but… it’s very bland in my opinion to the love-hate clusterfuck that the other comic is.

It also doesn’t help that Ian is making Eggman as deranged as Archie Eggman whilst the comics are now being considered canon and everywhere else besides IDW, Eggy is being portrayed as his mainstream, goofy villain self.

I mean sure, you could already argue that a lot of the actions he has already done in the games could be worthy of being killed by a firing squad but even then he was just a cartoon villain.

Ian likes to make him the same cold and sadistic freak that he was in Archie and it just doesn’t sit right. Especially in the comics, everything goes back to normal after the Metal Virus arc and Eggman is back to being frienimies with everyone.

At this point, someone just go punch a donut hole through this man. He has done so much crap.

I only heard about the Sonic comics after they got rebooted with IDW, so I tried both and ended up bouncing off Archie after 30 issues and reading IDW out of passive interest.

Archie's first 30 issues are mostly gag-a-day crap. You might start with Penders' Sally/Geoffrey mini-series, since IIRC that's about where it starts turning into a cohesive story.

Ian’s definitely fallen off but as another anon said in a previous thread, dude has probably kinda given up with so many restrictions at play. Maybe Sega is directly enforcing how long these comics stretch out, IDW. Or maybe he really has lost his touch.

Either way, it’s actually kind of depressing when we think about it, since we know he’s capable of so much better.

There are so many edits of this and the 25 Years Later issues and the cover for the issue of Sonic running with Sally in his arms. To think that Sonic's greatest and longest running romance with the guy making out, confessing his love to, marrying, and having kids with generates so much cope.
