They' definitely burned out with the start of IDW, although it's pretty obvious Evan took it worse. I thought her Secret Freedom Fighters stuff was great, but the Silver Age was a bit bland.

I'd either quit or do dumb action. Just completely strip things back and just have Sonic have fun adventures with a rotating cast of OCs that occasionally show up again. I still think there's a core to Sonic that can be made enjoyable despite the mandates, it just means letting go of overarching plots.

Yeah, that worked really well. Everything fits together, but there's rarely an overarching plot unless it's a multi-part episode. I did like the little stories they'd weave into the background, like Eggman's ongoing battle to get his trash removed. Hilariously, the best IDW issues have been standalone while fitting into the continuity. Scrapnik Island and Bad Guys were really good

As cliche as it is, the fated lovers thing would be more believable if they were emotionally linked in some way. Then again I don't think Sega wants there to be any actual romance between the two. They'll allow hints and reduce Sonic's reluctance but I'll be surprised to see any more than that.
