I've enjoyed all the adaptions so far, it's just weird that out of the three 'official' adaptions none of them went for a straightforward approach. Loved the Spaz art in Archie and the cool time stuff in StC, but don't remember much about the AoStH one other than it having better animation than the other episodes

The last decade was anything but kind with Knuckles, between non-roles in the games and even Boom (which I love, don't get me wrong), just adding fuel to the fire that is his meme status of being a dumbass.

Sonic 2, Prime and Frontier (specially with his animated short) are clearly a step-up for him and has helped both old and new artists remember: "Hey, Knuckles was actually a cool character with a little bit more depth that we have been given him credit for... maybe I should draw him next".
This applies to porn as well, as artist will feel more attracted to draw the cool character out of their own volition.
