Eggman spends more time going on inane schizo rants than he does talking with Sage, Knuckles goes back to being the Master Emerald's bitch, Tails never stresses out over feeling like a burden or resolving to become a better hero, etc. The entire thing is a tirefire.
The only vaguely redeeming part of the mess is that The End in the Jap script speaks a lot more about its nature, but they strip it off it's more interesting characterization as a gleefully destructive sadist so it just comes off as a purely mechanical and bland destroyer instead.
